Inspire Me Monday - Save The Crafty Youtuber Video Hop

Hey everyone, Jessie here today sharing some watercolour on a blown up digital image.

This is also my project for the save the crafty youtuber hop. Justine Hovey organizes this once or twice a year to help all us cardmaking youtubers reach the goals we need to keep our monetization.

Marcella was super sweet to sponsor me in this event, so I have a 25$ giftcard to give away, make sure you COMMENT ON THE VIDEO ON YOUTUBE FOR YOUR CHANCE TO WIN.

As always I love blowing up the digital images, this time I used Hellebores, and then I painted it with my watercolours. It really is my go-to when it comes to florals. But this time I did two tone blooms, I have spent the last couple weeks wandering through green houses, as planting season has just begun here in Saskatchewan. So tons of inspiration has been around.

Thanks for stopping by,
Hugz

Inspire Me Monday with Kathy Racoosin

Hello Friends! Welcome to another Inspire Me Monday. My name is Kathy Racoosin from The Daily Marker and I am super excited to share with you today.

Today I hope to inspire you grab a pencil and alter one of your stamps for a new look literally drawing a few lines. I am inking up this beautiful Amaryllis Bliss.

Even though this is a holiday flower I love the wide open spaces on the petals for watercoloring. Tombow markers are super easy to watercolor with and awesome for on the go watercoloring.
Gina K. Designs amalgam ink is great for "no line" watercoloring plus the ink can be used for alcohol markers.

This card is pretty tall and narrow measuring at a pretty solid 10 inches.

The paper that I prefer is cold pressed and 140 lbs . I love the texture of cold pressed paper instead of the hot pressed that is smooth and no texture.

Cut your watercolor paper to it's desired size. Draw two lines from the top of the flower. If your lines are crooked that can be even better ... more natural so don't worry about how your lines might look.

Sketch a vase and stamp the sentiment inside the vase. Stamp a leaf onto your stem.

Start watercoloring on one of the flowers that doesn't stand out as much. I like to think of it as a warm up. Be sure to leave some areas white without any color.

Start with a first layer of color and once it's all dry add another layer color on top of the first layer.

To make the smaller flowers stand out I used some dark grey on the parts of the flowers that touch the main center flower.

You can see how intense the color can be when you add a second layer. When I travel and talk about my coloring tips this is my mantra.

Don't worry about what direction the light is coming from because that is to stressful. If you create a darker area and a lighter area on each petal or stem etc. that will please the eye and your coloring will look great. I like to say that I am faking it because I really don't know where the light is coming from but, it looks pretty good because I have those light and dark areas. Does that make sense? I sure hope so!

Let's bring back the joy of coloring or painting. Step outside of your comfort zone and draw a stem for a tall and dramatic card. Don't be afraid to add those dark areas because that will really enhance your coloring.

Thanks for your visit today and have a great week! Hugs, Kathy Racoosin

Inspire Me Monday ~ Colouring on Coloured Paper

Happy Monday to you all!  I’m Allison Cope and I’m your hostess today for Inspire Me Monday.

Today I’m going to be heat embossing on coloured cardstock and then colouring in my images using Polychromos Pencils.  This technique is very easy and takes a relatively short time to colour.  I decided to use the beautiful “Peony Muse” stamp set for my images and then the “My English Rose” stamp set for my sentiment.

Come and join me at my crafty desk today for a fun and easy tutorial.

Here’s a quick peek of the final card again…

I hope you’ve enjoyed this simply tutorial today and give a try sometime soon.  Happy creating!

Inspire Me Monday: Sweet & Simple Basket!

Hello peeps! Before a holiday, I always search out ideas for fun little projects to deliver a little love to my kiddos. Yes, my son is 22 and my daughter is 15, but they still need a little handmade love from their mama, right? So, today, I am going to show you a super duper easy way to make an Easter treat basket! If you choose not to stamp on this little project, you can literally make this box in minutes. I chose to put my own spin on it and show you how to add a little digital design in the process!

Let's get started!

I started by creating a template for my box. I made it 6" wide and 6" tall and then added guides every two inches both horizontally and vertically around each edge in Photoshop Elements. Not sure how to "add a guide?" At the top navigation bar, click on "View" and then in the dropdown menu, click on New Guide. A window will pop up allowing you to choose vertical or horizontal as well as where you want your guide to land. I chose 2" and 4" both horizontally and vertically.

From there, I opened up the Vintage Easter Egg digital stamp and knew I wanted to use just the flower. So, I clicked on the background, chose that color and then, using the brush tool, started "erasing" parts of the image.

You can see when I was done, I used the flower to create a kind of border at the top and bottom of my soon to be basket!

I didn't want my basket to be white, so I ended up removing the white background and dropping in this fun pink polka dot design that I found online.

And here's my project all trimmed up, scored at 2" around and then cut at the flaps.

I ended up only using a few colors to bring my scene to life! And, I sped colored, just scribbling in from dark to light some color. There are times when you really want to get lost in the coloring and make it a masterpiece. This is not one of those times. ;-) Here's a peek at the two greens I used. I went over the whole leaf with G20 afterward.

Scribbled on these yellows, again going dark to light....

And lastly, the pinks -- from dark to light! I blended the whole flower with RV00.

As you are assembling your basket, you want to bring the corner of the flap from one side to meet the corner of the flap from the other side. (I took this photo before I colored up those little tiny daisy-like leaves! ;-) )

I cut a piece of decorative paper to be 1" wide by 10" long and decided to use this as my handle!

Before I attached the handle, I lined it all up and then punched my hole so that my handle would be in perfect position. I just used a pencil to make a mark and show me where to punch.  The sparkly brad I made using one of those flat brads and a 1/2" circle punch and some sparkly yellow paper.

And here's what my little basket looks like when it is all colored and assembled! I think this is just such a fun and darling project! Add a little easter grass (sorry, blue is all I had -- might swap that out before I give this one away) and then, of course, some candy!

And, here's a peek at the basket from the end angle. I sure hope you give this little project a try! Like I said, it's super easy and with some fun digital stamps, you can really make this your own and personalize each basket too! You could even add the name of the person you plan to give it to! The options are endless!

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing a little time with us here on the Power Poppy blog! Have a wonderful week and if I don't "see" you beforehand, have a Blessed Easter!

Inspire Me Monday... Rewind!

Note from Power Poppy Headquarters! Every now and then, we'll take a trip back in time to revisit an older Inspire Me Monday Feature! There are so many good ones out there, sometimes it's kind.... to rewind! It gives some oldies but goodies a little extra play.

Hello! Dina here for Inspire Me Monday. I've been having lots of fun making these 9 block cards lately! Last month on my blog I shared some cards that looked like quilt squares - today I'd like to show you how I created a little mosaic using a stamped image. Take a look at my finished card, and then I'll walk you through the process of putting it together!

I started by cutting out 9 squares from adhesive-backed label paper. You could use a punch or paper trimmer for this step, but I love these handy Grid Works dies from Sizzix - 9 precise squares (7/8") in one pass.

I removed the backing from the squares and lined them up on another backing sheet, side by side, in a 3 x 3 square.

I stamped the Peonies with dye ink onto my grid...

...then colored the image with Prismacolor pencils. The square with the stem in it ended up kind of boring, so I left that uncolored and just focused on the flowers and the background.

I positioned each colored square on to an Inchie Square using tweezers - I love that tidy border around the edge!

Instead of the stem, I stamped one of the Inchies with a sentiment from the Dynamic Duos: Peonies and Tulips set... those tiny sentiments are perfect for Inchies and tags! Love them. With a mosaic design like this, you could reassemble the de-constructed image, but I chose to mix it up a bit, turning and switching the squares around until I came up with an arrangement that felt balanced to me.

Here's a closer look at the card...

... and the full project again. That card base is from my huge stash of gel prints... some of them are just TOO PRETTY to use!

Have a great week! Thanks for stopping by!

Inspire Me Monday - Using colours you don't always reach for

Hey all, Jessie here with you today! I love Mondays, because on some of them I get to share a tid bit of my creative journey with you all! This week I decided it was time to break out of what I know best and pull out some colours I never reach for. It was challenging and fun to mix them in with the Perfect Poppies digital image.

Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Medium, Serpentine Genuine, Green Appatite Genuine, Undersea Green and Lunar Black. Are the colours that I used to create this pretty little flower, they are not on my typical pallet or something I reach for often. It was fun to go outside of my comfort zone and use colours I don't often reach for. I actually don't think I have ever painted with Alizarin Crimson, but it was so worth it. This one came out ever so pretty. Finishing it off with a Hematite Burnt Scarlet spack in the background to give it all a vintage feel.

I do have a fun process video to share with you all of this sweet little card.

Thanks for stopping by,
hugs,
Jessie

Inspire Me Monday ~ Spring Inspired Phone Case

Hello fellow Power Poppy lovers! I’m Allison Cope, your hostess for Inspire Me Monday today.

With having such a brutally cold February and start of March here in Southern Alberta, I needed to welcome some fun and flirty Springtime blooms to my craftroom so I printed out a copy of the glorious “Magnolia Sunshine” digital image to create with today.

A little over a year ago I finally got my hands on a new clear case for my Samsung phone and made a customized decorative panel to put on it.  You can see the process of my first phone panel here.

So join me in my craftroom as I create a brand new panel to pop in and accessorize with today!

Here’s another quick look at my new Spring inspired phone…

So the next time you pull out your crafty supplies, think how you might use them in your everyday life to bring light and love to yourself and others!

Hope you have an amazing week!  Now go get crafty!
