Hello all, I am so happy to be back for another Inspire Me Monday. Currently I am in the middle of a 30 day coloring challenge so I thought it would be fun to share how I work on the go. (more on the challenge at the end of this post)
Planning ahead for a road trip can fun and easy when you have an empty antique crate and a car with spare room. Deciding if I wanted to pack Copics or watercolor markers was the hardest part. I settled on my Tombow watercolor markers & Spectrum Noir sparkle watercolor pens. A towel, collapsable paint cup, brushes, foam tape, watercolor paper, a few colored pencils, ink and stamps were some of the supplies I packed plus my essentials.
My essentials are a mini misti, fine tip sharpie marker, white gel pen, scissors, glossy accents, ink, paper, stamps and a coloring medium.
I was hoping you might want to see my antique crate before I painted it.
I measured and cut part of a box for the bottom of the crate and painted everything with a can of graffiti paint. I love to mix antiques in my studio because they add character and warmth to my space.
When everyone was settled in and watching a movie I was able to do my coloring in for the day.
When you watercolor do you always have a towel on hand? I do and I love how colorful it becomes the more I use it... this particular towel I have had for over a year? Above the towel I used a stamp storage pocket to scribble the watercolor marker on. Using my brush I would pick up the color from the stamp storage pocket mixed with a little water and then paint on my stamped image.
*next time I will remember to pack a palette*
Ahhh Marcy's illustrations are such a joy to color and the details are always spectacular.
On a later date I will add some white gel pen accents and create a card with my watercolored images.
Here is a close up of the bouquet. It's hard to tell but, I colored, cut and popped a flower for the center. Later I will cut around the blue line on the image out and pop it on a card.
I hope you will consider traveling with a few supplies and I hope you see how wonderful it is to color on the go.
*If I was flying I would take everything mentioned with a few less watercolor markers and put everything in a tote. No matter where I go I always have coloring supplies with me. *
Today is day 14. of the “The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge". This is a good time to jump in if you are new to the challenge, love to color or if you just want to get your feet wet and give the 30 day coloring challenge a try. The idea is to color something daily with any medium. Just five minutes, that’s it. I keep hearing how relaxing it is to color and instead of making a full card. The 30 day challenge is really about carving out a little time your day for something that makes you happy. (You are free to jump in and out as time permits). Basically it’s any thing goes challenge and whatever you feel inspired to do. If you want to hear more click here.
Wishing a colorful week & thanks to Power Poppy for letting me share my coloring on the go with you today. Thanks, Kathy :)
Great idea Kathy! Love this little tool kit basket. Your images look so vibrant and lovely. Great coloring as usual!
ReplyDeleteWow!! This is so beautiful Kathy!! Thanks for the idea!! Traveling with kids, I never have time to enjoy the trip. And we usually fly for at least 24 hours (from USA to India, with 1 or 2 stops in between). Hopefully for our next trip, I'll pack some markers and maybe my older one will enjoy it with me :)
ReplyDeleteLove this idea of coloring on the go! And of course, it is so lovely!
ReplyDeleteFabulous coloring basket Kathy! I've taken a plastic box of pages/images to color and a pack of colored pencils and my Copics on the road but usually that's the extent of it. Yours would leave you with no chance of not having something you need- fantastic!
ReplyDeletetruly inspirational
ReplyDeleteThe floral design is coloured so beautifully thank you for sharing your post and how your 30 day colouring plan is going... l love your basket how well equiped you are with all of your goodies to work with your so organised xx
ReplyDeleteI love your coloring and I love the dimension of the flower on that one piece!!
ReplyDeleteand now you will have us all chasing about looking for cool baskets like yours! :D TFS!! I need me a coloring "box":D
How pretty! I like that you are able to fit all your tombows in your crate!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of taking some crafting supplies with me. I tend to be a nervous type, and I think this would calm me down. Your card is so pretty. Thank you for this great idea.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful images and coloring! Thank you for sharing your travel crate. I'm making a list so when I go somewhere I remember everything I will need.
ReplyDeleteAwesome Kathy!! I need a carry bin for my coloring items. Your coloring is fantastic as usual!
ReplyDeleteLeaving on Wednesday, may have to pack some coloring supplies! Love the non traditional colors on the Christmas socks too!
ReplyDeleteI love both your basket and coloring. I like that it is like time stand still when coloring. Also, stamps can be used in scrapbooks - so I guess even antiques ties in with coloring! Have a great coloring day.
ReplyDeleteI love that there are SO MANY colors in your images.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! And can't wait to see what you make of them.
Your crate is wonderful and looks just the right size for traveling.
I coloured on the go for the first time this year, didn't need to pack too much as I stamped panels before I left. It was a nice way to spend 15 minutes with a cup of coffee after a busy day☺
ReplyDeleteWay to go you made it work so nicely for you. I am always inspired by your fabulous coloring!
ReplyDeleteI try to take craft supplies when I'm on the GO too but I don' take as much as you. I'm sure you have a lot more expertise than me!
ReplyDeleteKathy, I love your watercolored cards!!! <3
ReplyDeleteI live to watercolor
ReplyDeleteSuch a fantastic idea!!! You always come up with the best way to take your stuff on the go. As always love your coloring Kathy
ReplyDeleteLove these beautiful creations! Such gorgeous designs and coloring! I have tried taking things on the go but I usually find that I forget too many things!
ReplyDeleteThis year I took all the items I wanted to use to make Christmas cards and put them together in one tray on my desk and it has helped so much on helping me actually make cards instead of getting distracted and wasting time searching for stamps, paper and whatnot. I will have to do this with my colouring stuff too. Thanks for the fabulous idea.
ReplyDeleteI love the non traditional colors of the Christmas stockings and as always your work is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to need this idea for when we go away for 6 weeks this winter! My husband and I were able to escape the cold winter for a month last year, and I forgot my art supplies. I was in horrible withdrawal, and there was a Michael's store that I would visit each day and use my 40% coupon to get supplies so I didn't go crazy!!! This year I'll be planning ahead! And Marcella puts such lovely details in her designs that you always feel like an artist when you're finished! Love you both! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome toolkit! I love this idea - can't wait to make my own!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful
ReplyDeleteKathleen
I too take supplies with me when I travel. Not nearly as creative as you do though. Just stick some "stuff" in my bag. Now on the lookout for some basket made of wood! Love the antiquing!!! My favorite coloring
ReplyDeleteLove your setup! & blue crate!
ReplyDeleteNon traditional colors look great!
Love love love your coloring. What an inspiration you are for me!!! The traveling tote is such a good idea. I'll be looking at some baskets and things differently now. Thank YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a novel idea to pack your crafting supplies in this antique look basket, Gr8! The stockings are too cute, enjoyed your watercoloring!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea and it looks also awesome and appealing, just saying "come and color a bit". :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coloring, and thanks for sharing your travel basket with all the necessities.

ReplyDeleteI love to hear what you are doing!!! I am trying to learn through all these blogs sm get so overwhelmed. I'm trying to stick to what I have tools to do but every post inspires me to do more.
ReplyDeleteThank for this chance to learn so much!!!
Kathy, I look forward seeing your blog in my emails and go to it right away. I get so many ideas from you and am looking forward to trying them. I find coloring using any medium so relaxing. Thanks for your blog!
ReplyDeleteAmazing tips for colouring on the go. I need to remember to do that more often :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing tips for colouring on the go. I need to remember to do that more often :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the say Kathy has inspired so many of us to color more (even if we have to squeeze in just a little on the go) and her coloring is absolutely brilliant. So inspiring, encouraging, and educational too! Love LOVE luv! xoxo, Kristina
ReplyDeleteI love your travel basket as well as your coloring. Power poppy images are great for coloring. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI like to have coloring supplies on hand as well when I travel. But I use a roller tote to pack everything and I have a pretty basket like bag for when I just need a few supplies. When at my daughters a local artist shop does a coloring night at a local bar/restaurant. It's so fun! I wish someone did that around here.
ReplyDeleteI live both these sets, so pretty!
5 minutes is so easy to find! Having supplies ready is the key. Your posts are such an inspiration, Kathy. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love your work! Thank you 😊
ReplyDeleteYour basket is so cute and so practical - thanks for the inspiration and the lovely eye candy coloring LOL!
ReplyDeleteI am a organizer so seeing your basket filled with pens makes me so happy! It makes it so easy to find just what you are looking for. Your cards are beautiful and oh so colorful!
ReplyDeletethanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteI have a crate that I've stuck on a
shelf as I had no idea what to do with
it. Now I'm going to get it down and
start embellishing for my paints.
Great to keep several different sets
in one place.
Kathy I love your work. The Christmas stockings are gorgeous. The shadow you created is beautiful with the flowers. Just Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards and so fun to see your go bag and how you pack it. It amazies me how small your go bag is and yet what gorgeous things you create from it. My go bag is huge compared to yous.
ReplyDeleteLove your coloring series. I am learning so much! Your basket is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome basket! I would love to get my hands on some older ones like this but I have a few newer ones set up with different coloring mediums so that I can grab them and go when I want to create somewhere other than my craft room. One for colored pencils, one for watercoloring and one for markers! I have an extra one that I can fill with a combination of mediums if I am unsure of what I want to use for adding color too!
ReplyDeleteYour stockings are bright and fun and the flowers are brilliant and absolutely gorgeous!! TFS!
beautiful coloring! love that basket too!!
ReplyDeleteWow you make it look so easy - taking stuff on the go! I will need to try this. What beautiful flowers and stockings you colored as well! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea in taking things with you on the go in the beasket. How adorab+le are those sweet stockings. The flowers are just stunning. Love the beautiful stamps.
ReplyDeleteGreat tips for on the go coloring. Your work is inspiring!
ReplyDeleteFabulous idea for taking coloring on the go. I'm going to look around the house for a basket that will work. Gorgeous coloring on the flowers and the stockings are adorable!
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea. I travel via motorhome and have 2 decorative boxes that fit in my cabinet in my craft area as well in the bottom of my wardrobe in the motorhome. Everything I need for " on the road art" fits in there. I also have some antique wooden cigar boxes that my Dad kept art supplies in 75 years ago sitting on my cabinet. Knowing they were his inspires me. I'll post a picture on IG and tag you! Hugs
ReplyDeleteI always try to take some crafty stuff to do with me for car trips--this little wooden basket is perfect! I have found you have to be careful on curvy roads, the coloring to de-stress because your spouse is driving too fast makes a huge mess!
ReplyDeleteAWESOME! I love the basket and the always amazing coloring.
ReplyDeleteDoggoneit, Kathy, Everything you touch turns gorgeous... even your towel is pretty! lol!! What fabulous colors in that bouquet! I really need to get my Tombows back out. I love how any plastic surface can be a palette for them. : )
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for transporting your supplies. Beautifully colored images, my water coloring never looks this good. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAmazing Coloring Kathy. Thanks for the wonderful tips.☺
ReplyDeleteWhat a great setup! Love your work and thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your ideas.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your posts. From techniques to unique storage, there is always something to learn and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post. I love the idea of a travel tote that also adds character to your home space. As always your coloring is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLove your antique basket redo! Very hand for traveling also. I have a tote from a company called Thirty One (Not sure that's the full name), but they sell all kinds of large & small totes & bags. I bought the tote with my car dmaking in mind. I will throw supplies into the individual compartments & take to my daughter's houses when I'm babysitting the grand kids for when they go to bed!!
ReplyDeleteLove your on the go basket idea! I'm going to have to find something that I can set up for me. I think it would be handy to have to use while I'm on the phone too!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful colors and ideas. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAwesome ideas for colouring on the go and I love the crate/basket you painted! Your colouring is amazing (it always is), I especially love the darling stockings.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely crate and you have made it look so pretty. Beautiful colouring too. Creative Blessings, Tracy x
ReplyDeleteI also have a passion for finding unique ways to store my craft essentials. I love this idea with your crate and what a beautiful one it is at that. I can't wait for Thanksgiving because I am planning to color the whole time at my in-laws!
ReplyDeleteLove the color palette you chose. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteYour crate is perfect and your packing skills are superb. I'm not good coloring/crafting anyplace but in my own craft room, I don't want anybody else around either, the mojo totally disappears....what a poop I am, lol. Love your piece today, beautiful, as always.
ReplyDeleteI love that crate Kathy!! and those flowers are lovely!!
ReplyDeleteI love your idea. I have some boxes that I could create a to-go kit with. As far as a palette is concerned, use the protective sheet on your stamps. It is always with you, and easy to clean.
ReplyDeleteI usually travel with needle crafts b/c they are easy to contain in a tote. this is such a good idea for other crafty stuff. I will have to try it.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous coloring as always!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the antique carryall. it looks pretty as was & even prettier since you've painted.
ReplyDeletewe RV so I have a medium size make-up case always ready to go. I even bring it to work for down-time crafting.
This crate is gorgeous! I'd love to see some videos of watercoloring with these Tombow markers! :-)

ReplyDeletebeautiful and useful, love your crate and what you did with it. I just have all my crafting supplies splashed out all over the place ;-).

ReplyDeleteLove your antique crate!!! Makes for a one of a kind craft studio when you use things like that! Beautiful coloring again today!
ReplyDeleteLove the crate! When I'd travel, I'd have a difficult time deciding what to bring. I tend to always reach for my Copics when I color because I'm confident in my results. I like your watercoloring. I need to reach for mine.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of taking projects with me. Thanx for helping sort out the logistics of it all!
ReplyDeleteLove your crate...a stylish way to carry your coloring necessities with you. Love your work!
ReplyDeleteOooh I love your pretty travel tote, a great idea for a road trip.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coloring as always, Kathy! I really love the flower image. So pretty. And the idea of your antique crate, so cool! We went away this past weekend and I brought all my prismacolor pencil crayons. And, I actually got a few minutes to color. Yay!! Thanks for all you do. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the water coloring and I really need to start trying. I have several of the Power Poppy Stamps but have been using Copics on them...time to try something new..
ReplyDeleteThese are stunning! I love seeing images colored with various mediums!

ReplyDeleteThanks again, Kathy, for all you do for us!

Abeautiful job! In the past, I have cross-stitched in the car, hemmed/repaired clothing, but of course since I've been paying attention to this awesome color challenge, I always at least take my pencil pouch & something to color, sometimes fronts of cards, sometimes in my Inspire Bible.
ReplyDeleteBrought my pencil crayons and my travel Koi paints to the doctor's office today for the waiting room. Unless I know there won't be any downtime, I seem to bring my colouring supplies most of the time when I go out. I use a pretty tote and I bring prestamped images. Gorgeous images today Kathy!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you colored the Christmas stockings, and I love the idea of using antique pieces in your studio for character.
ReplyDeleteLove your caddy. Beautifully colored flowers.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coloring as always. Love your go along crate.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coloring. Love your ideas for taking supplies with you.
ReplyDeleteI love the Power Poppy stamps too Kathy, and you've coloured them so beautifully!
ReplyDeleteI love power poppy images, but they are also intimidating as they should be colored the best, and I don't always manage that too well.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, awesome coloring!
ReplyDeleteGreat stow and go idea! I will have to remember this for my next trip! Your coloring is superb as always! 😀
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Always love Kathy's colour choices.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for sharing this, Kathy! Love how you colored these stamps and the idea with adding a flower above main image!
ReplyDeleteRegina
Gosh Kathy, these are so awesome, I love what you do with markers - ALL markers!! Love your antique crate, way to fill it up and how handy that it is so portable!
ReplyDeleteKathy's "colouring on the go" post is incredibly timely. My husband's sister passed away on Wednesday (hearts hurting....) and we'll be heading west to join the rest of his family for a celebration of her life this coming Friday. Bringing along images and colouring supplies is on my packing list, for those times over the weekend when I'll need my space to think about her in peace and solitude. Thank you for sharing the what-to-bring ideas! The crate and the images you're colouring: lovely; I'll be using a rubbermaid container! Not exactly fancy *grin*
ReplyDelete~carol
Beautiful coloring as usual. Thanks for the ideas about what to take along for coloring. Love the crate.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coloring as usual. Thanks for the ideas about what to take along for coloring. Love the crate.
ReplyDeleteThese are great ideas Kathy. I will be packing a take along kit more now that I've resigned from my job. Your colouring as always looks stunning and is a complete inspiration for me.

ReplyDeleteI like your stylish way to carrying your supplies.
ReplyDeleteNice! Maybe I'll try that next time we'll go on a trip..
ReplyDeleteNice! Maybe I'll try that next time we'll go on a trip..
ReplyDeleteI love to color on the go. Waiting for a Dr. App? Time flies if I am coloring. My only caveat is speak here for you don't lose any of your money for instants if you have some zig markers and a water brush hold onto those lids. I think four or five of them are hanging out somewhere with my odd socks that are missing too... thank you Kathy for this coloring challenge it's always so much fun and for introducing me to a new blog for powerpoppy. LDYJS@outlook.com
ReplyDeleteYour work is perfection.... love it.
ReplyDeleteWow, this little tote would be great to keep right on my craft desk with all the essentials ready to go. I always love seeing your beautiful coloring and the thought of you coloring on the go makes me smile!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors you have used. So Pretty!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to travel! Your coloring + Marcy's artwork = Perfection! You inspired me to pack art supplies for our recent trip to Arizona, Kathy. What fun it was to sit in a shady spot looking out over the desert and watercolor some cacti for cards! It felt so special! Maybe next time I will be brave enough to take out some supplies on the airplane, too. ♡
ReplyDeleteAlways so organized! And I agree, PowerPoppy stamps are the best!
ReplyDeleteI am always looking for ideas to help me meacimize my crafting time. Thanks! And I love the blue glow around the floral image. I'm inspired to start coloring this afternoon.

ReplyDeleteForgot to mention love that stamp!!!😊🌺
DeleteKathy is "getting around" -- in a good way. I'm so happy to have her work noticed by so many. She is truly an inspiration and a multi-talented coloring artist. Her ideas are endless, and she's now branched off into repurposing antiques!! As with everything she does, her choice of stamps was perfect.
ReplyDeleteDo you color with the Tombow markers, shading and all, the same as you do with your copic markers? You know, three different shades/tints of the same basic color?
ReplyDeleteWow, what wonderful use of the antique basket.
ReplyDeleteGreat coloring too!!
Packing up is the hardest thing. I never want to leave anything behind. :)
ReplyDeleteThe images and coloring are so beautiful. The towel is really great. I love those colors, too.

ReplyDeleteYour coloring on the go info was great! I love your antique crate, although I am partial to stained rather than painted wood.
ReplyDeleteThose images just glow with color and your organizer is fun and creative! Love the wood, and all the goodies inside of it.

ReplyDeleteWow, I just love the stamps and how you colored them so beautifully!! The stocking are awesome with all those details!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful as usual! You certainly have inspired me to color!!
ReplyDeleteI'm heading back home tomorrow from a 2 week vacation visiting family in 2 US states, 2 time zones away from where I live (and across a border, too). I packed along crafting supplies in both our checked luggage and carry on. I used my time waiting in the airports, waiting for flights and on layovers (no one lives near a major hub *sigh*) water-colouring images I later put into cards in a hotel room. I used water colour pencils and a waterbrush with pre-stamped or pre-printed (digi) images. I even did a bit of colouring on the airplane for one of the long flights! It was the most relaxed waiting and flying time I have ever had.
ReplyDeleteYou have such great ideas, I love water coloring. Thank you as always for all your great hints.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing how you packed up forba road trip! My problem is i am usually driving!
ReplyDeleteAwesomeness!!! I 💓 Coloring on the go, ever since I heard you talk about it! Best way to spend traveling time when you can! God bless!
ReplyDeleteWow! I love all the colors. This is a great idea to take yo swim meets. Thanks for the ideas.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the "coloring on the go" tips! Love your antique basket for holding your tools. Thanks for the inspiration and chance to win, too. :D
ReplyDeleteI like your on-the-go crate and your beautiful coloring!
ReplyDeleteA nice "check-list" for supplies on the go. And I love what you did with the antique crate. I really enjoy seeing your coloring each day--that is therapeutic in and of itself...
ReplyDeleteOh, Kathy, your coloring is amazing, and I LOVE that you carry your coloring basket with you when you travel. I love coloring when I am waiting in a doctor's office...one of my more productive times. Beautiful images and so gorgeous! Thanks for a wonderful Inspire Me Monday here at Power Poppy...my favorite place to play! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and I always carry coloring supplies with me too. This is all great to know because many will be traveling next week.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful coloring! The crate is cute...
ReplyDeleteYour images are colored so wonderfully. I like what you did with the antique basket. I have a mix of things in my craft room also... just purchased a great remake/antique cabinet from Hobby Lobby with nice deep drawers that will hold taller items if I wish. Now to get it set up [but that will mean I have to ignore "playtime" for a bit]. LOL
ReplyDeleteBoy do I love the way you blend and use color!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are very inspiring!! Thank you for sharing and for the coloring challenge!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy!
ReplyDeleteI love these images and how you gave them such bursts of color!
I adore the stocking with Teddy holding on to the little sprig! Such tiny detail!
I love, love, love the flower spray! I can never tell with your beautiful use of shading with the: color blending, the grey colors, and getting into ever nook and cranny with layers of color if you have cut out a piece of the image and popped it up on foam or if it is your mastery of illusions through color that make it seem popped up!
I would love it if maybe one day...even a year from now, you would please do a super quick video on which grey Copics are warm vs. cool, and when/how to use the different techniques for different results. I hope you will please consider putting this on your "Maybe Some Day" list.
I'd also love to see how you would color water in a clear vase with a flower stem or two in it. I've seen it done by applying Distress Ink straight to paper, roughly from the pad. I want to see you work your magic in a more refined way! If you have either of these already covered, would you please share a link? Thank you for considering sharing your knowledge on one or both of these areas.
Thank you for yet another chance at a give-away!
He-IS-Able!
