O is for Orchidaceae

Let’s let this post ooze with affection for Orchids, can we do that today please?

To give you splashes of inspiration to create with our new Orchids Rock stamp set, which features Lady Slipper (Paphiopedilum) and Cymbidium Orchids, I’m sharing photos from my recent paparazzi fling through the Missouri Botanical Garden’s annual Orchid Show. The show runs until March 22, and if you are near St. Louis, I highly recommend it.

While I’ve highlighted Orchids included in my stamp set, the Orchid Show has mannnny more rare and wonderful types from all over the world, from ruffled Cattleya and butterflylike Phalaenopsis to spidery Caladenia and vivacious Vanda, to mysterious species Orchids that most of us have never heard of before — all in bloom, and displayed with gorgeous complementary foliage plants, moss, ferns, and statuary. Get thee to the Garden!

1. Grandiphyllum divaricatum  2. Paphiopedilum (did not get name on this fella)  3. Paphiopedilum Naomi II  4. Paphiopedilum Orange Sunset  5. Cymbidium Red Back 'Solid Gold'  6. Paphiopedilum Millmanii

1. Paphiopedilum Varuna  2. Cymbidium Jill 'Katalnica'  3. Cymbidium Valley Blush 'Magnificent'  4. Paphiopedilum Olona 'Open Arms'  5. Cymbidium Mini Beacon 'Red Torch'

1. Cymbidium Maluka 'Brilliant'  2. Paphiopedilum MacBeth’s Ghost  3. Paphiopedilum Ilemianum ('Rudolph' X 'MO')  4. Cymbidium Starbright  5. C. Starbright with P. Rainbow   6. Cymbidium (missed the name on this beauty)  7. Paphiopedilum hybrid

1. Paphiopedilum hybrid Veribest X Paph. Lunar Orbit  2. Paphiopedilum Insigne 'Brilliance'  3. Cymbidium Sleeping Angel  4. Cymbidium Sylvia Miller  5. Paphiopedilum (did not get name, drats!)

Are you ready to bring the Orchid stamps to life? These clear photopolymer beauties are ready to roll out... and I’ve noticed in my informal stamping trials (yes, I made that up) that the Big Scripts lettering looks quite cool paired up with Orchids Rock!

oh I love the sneak peek. Marcella, your digis are the most beautiful digis I have ever seen. When I first saw one I said "That's not a digi", it was too beautiful. I am so sad that my computer died a few months back and I lost the two digis I had from PP. I'll just have to build my collection back up. This looks like a hyacinth to me. What gorgeous flower pics Marcella. TFS.

Barb said...

Hopefully, you will also issue this on a stamp, not only a digi. There are a lot of us out here who do not like digis. Please reconsider. BTW, the orchids pictured above are scrumptious!

The orchids in the pics are simply stunning. I never knew there were so many varieties...and I bet there are plenty more that aren't pictured. I've just recently discovered your site & stamps. Thanks for a chance you win! BTW, I agree with the others that the new digi is lilacs though my first guess was wisteria. And about the lady bug...I initially thought the leaf was a birds head peeking out & the lady bug was it's eye! :-) I probably would fare well.on an ink blot test lol.

Lilacs!! I love, love, love lilacs!! My parents backyard was lined on both sides with lilacs. In the spring when they were in bloom, the smell was unbelievable. I used to go outside and sit on the deck and breathe it in. Love them!

I also think this is lilacs, which I love and find the scent of lilac to be soothing; reminds me of when I used to visit my sister with my 2 sons in N.H. as she had several of them blooming outside her place in the spring. My sons who are now grown up also remember the fun they had visiting and playing with their cousins. I am so glad there are different colors of lilacs now....look forward to this digi!

Your statement - "Get thee to the garden" makes me want to respond with "Get me to the PowerPoppy shop!" (It's a virtual garden!)
