Inspire Me Monday ~ Fluttering Butterflies

Welcome to Inspire Me Monday!  I’m your host Allison Cope today.

Today we’re going to color up some clear stamp images and create a fun interactive card (my favorite!).

For today’s project, I used:
  • stamps, ink and corresponding dies
  • coloring utensils (Copics)
  • a few pennies
  • 110# white cardstock
  • large & small circle dies
  • small plastic spin & slide discs
  • foam adhesive
  • cloud stencil (optional)
Join me in my crafty space while I color in the 3 clear stamps set images including “Natural Beauties”, “Soothing Sympathy” and “Pure Prairie Spirit”.

Here’s a look at the final card.  As said before, the yellow is so light it’s very hard to photograph.

And here you can see the shimmer pen I put all on the groovin’ butterflies…

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope this inspires you to make a fun and whimsical interactive card!  Now go get INKY!

March Power & Spark: Inspired by Fabric!

Are you ready? Seriously, are you ready for a brand new challenge this month that just might have you perusing Pinterest for just a wee bit longer than normal? We love a good inspiration challenge around here and one of our queens of creativity, Ally Cope, dreamt up a super fun way to get some colorful ideas for your next creative cardmaking session. Check it out peeps!

HOW TO PLAY: Here's what Ms. Ally has to say....

We find inspiration all around us! I always am gawking at the amazing fabrics we wear, fabrics we use to upholster our furniture and the fabrics we lay over us at night. So this month, take a look at some fabric swatches that inspire you and use them as a stepping stone to create a fun card.

When it comes to inspiration, Ally DOES NOT disappoint. First up, she had a fabulous link to a board she created on Pinterest FULL of inspiration for you.

CHECK OUT ALLY'S INSPIRATION BOARD HERE

And here's a look at the swatches of fabric that sparked this amazing creation! (Just CLICK HERE to see in the link directly in Pinterest) Oh my gosh, how fun are these sunset shades?

Now let’s take a look at the card Ally created too using Power Poppy’s clear stamp set Pure Prairie Spirit. (We should mention this amazing illustration also comes as a digital stamp set - Pure Prairie Bouquet - as well...). Notice how Ally picked up on the blue flowers with hints of yellows and violets? What a lovely kickstart to a project. I know you are all going to have a blast playing along with us for this challenge.

Inspire Me Monday: Yin & Yang!

Happy Monday everyone!  Welcome to Inspire Me Monday.  I’m your hostess Allison Cope!  I hope you’re all having an amazing summer.  My family and I are off on vacation this week to do a little camping together.  Before we know it, our son will be “too old” to go camping with his parents!

Today I’m sharing a fun tutorial on how I made what I’m calling “Yin & Yang” cards.  Trust me it’s SUPER simple!
In Chinese philosophy, yin and yang (also yinyang or yin yang) describe how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another.

So grab something refreshing to drink and join me at my scrappy desk to see how my fun cards are made...
To see the video in HD, click here.

I’m so glad you could join me today.  Here’s a quick review of all the cards…

The cards we made today feature the glorious “Vibrant Thanks” stamp set.

My other example cards include this pair made using the “Tree of Life” stamp set.

And my final set of cards features the “Dahlia XL” stamp set and sentiment from the “Pure Prairie Spirit” collection.

So what do you think?  Is this the kind of card you’d like to attempt making on your next adventure in your crafty world?  I sure hope so!

I made a very similar card last year using the gorgeously detailed stamp set "Lilac Time".  You can see that card right HERE on my blog.

Have a great week everyone and thanks for stopping by.   I’d love to hear what you think and give that video a quick “thumbs up”.

Abundance Preview, Day 2: Pure Prairie Spirit

Hey hey hey! Have you been following along on our Abundance stamp collection sneak peeks? We got underway yesterday with a versatile floral set called Vibrant Thanks, and today we’re jumping back into the world of flowers for a bouquet that’s been on our best seller list since as a digital stamp.

I often go for walks in a park nearby that’s designated as a “prairie restoration” — landscapers took what was once a grassy field and totally revamped the area into rolling hills of native wildflowers. Now, I’ve drawn a lot of wildflowers in my time, but there is something about prairie fields buzzing with local color that really brings a smile!

Getting out my illustration go-tos (Bristol illustration board and a pencil) I concocted a free-flowing bouquet based on prairie-esque stems picked from my garden, and then I whittled around, got out the eraser, and supplemented areas with flowers more common to prairies out west. After doing a little research, I brought in favorites like little bluestem, New England asters, purple prairie clover, and Indian paintbrush.

This bouquet may look a bit familiar, because the digital stamp form, Pure Prairie Bouquet, has been quite popular with our digi-loving customers, and NOW we are offering this image (updated and enhanced a bit here and there!) for our clear stamp-loving customers. It is so much fun to bring this image to life with color — whether you stick to the true shades of the flowers, or go rogue and bring in your own imaginative palette! Introducing: Pure Prairie Spirit.

Such an eyeful of flowers, I tell ya! As if it was plucked from the prairie fields and brought inside to plunk into a pitcher. You’ll find what makes the Pure Prairie Spirit clear stamp set different from the digital set is that the butterflies (there are 2!) are not a part of the bouquet itself, you can add butterflies, or skip them altogether. There is an array of sentiments — including a fun birthday blurb that really pairs up nicely with the theme of this wild, wonderful set. Want to see how you can use this set? Let’s go see what the Bloom Brigade has created for release day — they have had so many art supplies out for this bouquet, I’m sure craft tables were flooded with color (and marker caps).

Take it away, Bloomies!

Thank you so much for coming to see the colorful fun we’ve been working on — and hope you’re feeling inspired to create some of your own. Pure Prairie Spirit will be available on July 30, along with the other 4 sets in the Abundance Collection. One more is coming tomorrow, and I promise, it’s a pretty BIG deal!! ;)
