Friday

Are you ready for some Good Vibes?

Hi-dee Ho Sweet Power Poppy Fans! It's Friday and I have to tell you, it's been a few weeks since we've thrown some good vibes your way. So, I think I know the answer to the question, "Are you ready?" I know I am! There's so much goodness and fun to be witnessed with a little Power Poppy thread running through it all! Let's hop right in, shall we?

Your Good Vibe 5 Hit List

1. A Splash of Sparkle & Blue I have to say, when Ally Cope posted this card in the making using Power Poppy's O Holy Night stamp set, some Brusho and a wee bit of sparkle. I was completely taken by it. It's swoon worthy! I couldn't wait to see the final card and believe me, you're going to want to click HERE to see for yourself! She entered this one in one of our Creative Confetti Challenges. Click HERE to check out our challenges and play along if you feel so inspired!

2. Random Vibes  Okay, just like the title reads -- this good vibe is SUPER random. If you put  #powerpoppy in the search bar on Instagram, this image pops up on the feed. I was curious. Turns out the band Nasty Rumours just released some new stacks of wax and wanted to get the word out. Apparently, they are a Power Pop band. Why is this a good vibe? Well, I remember being a teen and spending HOURS in my room with the sounds from my coveted record collection blaring. And....the records that came out colored were way cool in my book. A red record? Way cool! So, this little photo just brought back memories! Thanks for indulging me! ;-)

3. The Power Pup! Oh my gosh, this photo of Mr. Tibbs is classic for so many reason and it gave me a chuckle. It's as if he's saying, "Why, my dear, are you taking my photo?" And second, it's a little teaser of some of the fun Marcy's been working on for her Christmas line. Mark your calendar for October 24th. That's when the sneaky peeks begin folks! Good vibes indeed!

4. FEARLESS coloring  Susan Wymer is rocking Power Poppy's Big Sexy Leaves and she's doing it on a little gift doled out at one of Kathy Racoosin's Coloring Roadtrips. Susan said she was coloring and trying to "Be Fearless" in the process. You go Susan! We happen to think this work in progress is smashing! Can't wait to see the finished project!

5. The Return of Someone Wonderful!   If you missed the big news earlier this week, Power Poppy welcomed back one of its very first Bloomies to our "family!" If you're a Leslie Miller fan (and let's face it, who isn't?), you'll be able to check out her Power Poppy creations on the Instant Gardener team. Goodness, I was so giddy to hear she wanted to join us again. She's a master in the cardmaking world and I've been a superfan for more than a decade! Welcome back Leslie! This little snippet shown is from a card she did HERE using Power Poppy's Winter Wonderland stamp set. Ahh... just gorgeous!

Creative Confetti: Get in SHAPE!

Hello all! As we get ready to throw up a new challenge to kick off the week, I wanted to share a little of the inspiration behind it all. Recently, I've been seeing a lot of cards and creations with frames at the center of them. I like the look. I really like the look.  I saw it HERE when I opened up a Stampin' Up catalog. And, I watched it live and in living color with the fabulous Jennifer McGuire HERE recently. So, I scratched my head. I lost some brain cells thinking and I came up with a way to mimic this look using my favorite stamps and a little digital manipulation!

So folks, here's the latest Creative Confetti challenge for you!

HOW TO PLAY:
  • Create a card or project that uses a geometric shape as a focal point!
  • Use Power Poppy stamps if you have them, if not, you might win some if you're randomly chosen. Each month, we'll round up all those that play in any of the month’s Creative Confetti challenges, and draw a name from the entries to win a $25 GIFT CARD for the Power Poppy Shop!
  • To enter, link up your creation below, sharing the direct link to your card from your blog, Instagram, or card gallery.
  • Our link will be open all month for you to play along with us! Try one Creative Confetti Challenge or partake in them all for extra chances to win. Just in case you DO want to try them all, click HERE for our first challenge of the month, HERE for our second and HERE for our third!

Moving on! This challenge requires a bit of a tutorial so, let's get to it. I opened up my favorite photo and digital editing software - Photoshop Elements. I know many of you have it, and man, is it useful for digis! If you ever want a more in depth tutorial on how to use this program with Power Poppy Digis -- click HERE!

Let’s get to the geometric shapes, shall we?

First, I started with a blank canvas and just opened up a new blank file.

You can see that I used the cookie cutter tool and chose a hexagon for my first shape. After you choose the shape, you literally just stretch the tool across your canvas and this is what you get - the shape! You can see on the right side of this image below that I added a "stroke" around my image. It's a tool under Effects and Styles. I choose a heavy stroke so that it would be really pronounced when printed.

From there, I drag the shape over to another clean canvas that I sized to fit a card front - 4.25" by 5.5" so that I know how big the shape is and where it might fall on the card.

Now you're ready to print and get to the fun stuff! I should mention that you don't have to create your own shapes. I am sure if you Googled shapes, you'd find a bunch of things that you could copy and paste into a word doc, no problem!

While I was creating this one, I kind of had a field day and ended up creating three card fronts on one big page. For the circle one, I just used the Circular Marquee Tool, created a bunch of circles, added strokes around them and that's how I did that bubble effect. See?

After I was done printing this, I did print a second copy on Avery Removable Full Sheet Labels so that I could use them as masks.

Next, I cut out my hex shape, masked the front of my trimmed card front and reached for THIS stamp set - Winter Wonderland by Power Poppy -  I just absolutely find those flowers breathtaking! Those anemones! The beauty of using a geometric shape is also that the hexagon would cover the poinsettia, meaning that this image goes from being a holiday image to a gorgeous array of everyday blossoms and berries!

For this next step, my MISTI stamping tool was critical. I can't stress that enough.

Because you are using a mask, there are times when the stamped image doesn't properly stamp around the edge of the mask, leaving a void. Using the MISTI allows you to reink and stamp again a second time, getting rid of that void. You could never line this up so perfectly with just your eyeballs folks!

So, after I got the image crisp by stamping twice, I removed the mask and.. tada!

From there, I colored it all up and added a sentiment to the inside of the hexagon shape from the Big Scripts stamp set by Power Poppy. I used the same markers as I did for THIS card Did you notice that instead of coloring up the poinsettia leaves that peeked out red, I colored them as if they were just extra foliage? Slick, huh? No holiday here! ;-)

See?

And here's a closeup! You can see that I added a little glitter to the berries just for fun!

And, while I am not going to show you all three cards right now, here's a little sneaky peek!

I'll post the other two cards with additional tidbits this coming Friday on MY blog! ;-)

So, now all that's left is for you to GET IN SHAPE! Choose your favorite geometric kind of inspiration and go to town with your creativity! Of course, when you're done, don't forget to link up your creation! We love seeing how you take what we come up with to new heights!

Until next time!

Day 11: Festive Beverage Gift Tags

Howdy all!  Welcome the ELEVENTH day of our 12 Days of Christmas here at Power Poppy! I'm your hostess Allison Cope. We only have one more day to share some fun and festive gift ideas for this holiday season.

We should also point out this is a part of our Power & Spark Challenge. Instead of just one theme, create something inspired by one of our 12 days of tutorials, link up your creation HERE and you'll be in the running for this month's challenge. Just think you are creating something fun --creating a gift for someone -- AND you have a chance at winning $50 in Power Poppy Bucks at the Power Poppy Shop!

Today I'm sharing a variety of festive beverage tags featuring all kinds of amazing stamp collections.

The beauty of wine tags is that they can be almost any size!!  Yup... you can make them wide or thin, tall or short, multi-layered or just one simple layer.  So each one of my tags today is not like the other.

If you know me, I'm a super-duper purple fan so I always find a way to incorporate it into my creations... event Christmas ones!  So my first tag is all about purple.  It features the large "Winter Wonderland" stamp set, colored in using Copic Markers.

To create the snowflake background, I used the snowflake cluster from the "Glitter House Village" and I used the simple sentiment from the "Berry Sweet Holiday" to finish off the tag.

My second beverage tag features one of my favorite new stamp sets.  It's called "Tweet Tidings".  This cheery tag has a few touches of silver to add some sparkle.

I colored my images using Prismacolor Pencils.

Not all of our hostesses are female!  So I tried to create a little more masculine feel to it.  So I grabbed my "Action Santa" and "Holly Golightly" stamp sets and created this more manly tag.

I chose to die cut the end of my tags in a little bit of a different angle.  I even matched it to my mini hanging tag.

My final beverage tag features the "Dream Wedding" stamp set.  I thought it would be completely fitting to give to your New Year's Eve party hostess.

I even made it to be a fun shaker element with some sparkly confetti inside.  Instead of die cutting a hole I chose to use a length of wide ribbon to hang my tag around the neck of my beverage.

For variations on these tags try:
  • Adding a card to the tag so it opens up with a message for your recipient
  • Add a pocket to drop in a gift card (coffee shop, liquor store, etc.)
  • Add a detachable homemade ornament for the receipient's Christmas tree
  • Attach a gift certificate for the local taxi service or a mode of local public transportation

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Remember, if you try any one of the 12 projects featured during our 12 Days of Christmas -- be sure to link up your creation HERE so that you are in the running for the $50 shopping spree to the Power Poppy Shop! Be sure you pop back tomorrow for our final day of our Twelve Days of Christmas extravaganza as the lovely Kathy Racoosin dazzles us with her challenge inspiration! Until then... cheers!

So, take her lead and let's see if you can show a little Portion Control this month! Why should you play you say? Holiday Day 8: Winter Wonderland

We made it! It’s our last day of sneak previews — the final set of my Happiest Holiday 2017 collection is in the spotlight today and I cannot waiiiiiiit to show you!

Many of you heard that Doug and I were married last month, and boy oh boy was it a beautiful, love-filled celebration (note: I *will* be posting lots of photos here, I can't wait to share moments from our celebration with you!! Just been so busy working on this collection for you!). While flowers are always something that’s on my mind, they were definitely front and center as I worked with my very talented friend, Trenna Travis, to design our wedding flowers and decorations.

Flower design and photography by Trenna Travis Design Studio

Can you tell that our wedding had a woodland theme? Trenna and I absolutely went bonkers at the wholesale flower market — this bouquet has five varieties of ferns swimming around in there! Pepperberries, snowberries, and seeded Eucalyptus... Hellebores, Anemones, Astilbe, Coreopsis, Protea, Scabiosa seed heads, and the pièce de resistance: pitcher plant, which is a relative of Jack-in-the-Pulpit. The range of shapes, textures, and subtle shifts of color were simply dreamy. A pink petal would echo a pink vein in the pitcher plant, a pale green of the Scabiosa picked up on the greenish tinge of the double Hellebore. Budded Astilbe fronds resemble fizzy bubbles, a clever reference to the larger sizes of berries and seeds that mingled about. Twisting and curling ferns added a liveliness and vivacious burst of green to the calming colors — Trenna’s eye for detail and skill at arranging is beyond masterful. She texted me these photos of my bouquet as I was about to get my hair done the morning of the wedding, and I just sat in my car and cried. She had created the dreamiest dream bouquet for me, on the day I was to marry my true love.

Before we designed the wedding flowers, Trenna and I developed mood boards to help us determine the direction, adding photos of our attire, and scouring Pinterest for flowers that fit the theme. Once we had a vibe and general color palette, the mood boards helped us stay on target with every aspect of the wedding.

I share these with you today, my friends, because putting together bouquets in my mind is something I do quite often. While I adore working with flowers in real life, it is much more economical to dream them up I my head and put them down on paper, where the colors and style can be changed with every new stamp impression.

Photography by Lisa Fioretti

That is one of the reasons I’ve been sharing my “Marcella’s Mood Board” image for each day of the release this week — I want you all to see what goes on in my mind as I’m designing ANYTHING — whether it’s a room in my house, my wedding day, or the stamp sets I create for Power Poppy. I’m busy dreaming up new schemes, drawing on references old, new, natural, artisan, rustic, modern... getting inspired by colors and shapes, textures and tiny details.

I like for things to be special and rarified, and I hope you can feel the difference when you work with our Power Poppy designs. I know that I feel that way when I see what you make with them!! Each one of you has such a unique look to your work, you bring your personal experiences, your talents, your preferences, your special care for detail into everything you make, and it is a delight for all of us to see your precious creations.

On to today’s set, a Poinsettia-spiked bouquet I’m proud to share with you ... Winter Wonderland.

Winter Wonderland was inspired by fabulous wedding bouquets, wintery floral combinations with unexpected twists. A bouquet that can be as showy on Christmas as it can be in February! Starring a beautiful double Poinsettia (I know you’re getting good at working with them from what I’ve seen using our original Poinsettia set, so I wanted to challenge you with this one!), accented with Anemones, Pepperberries, and Dusty Miller Artemesia, this one will stop folks in their tracks.

REMEMBER: You can use any colors that strike your fancy!! While I have gone off into a muted maroon, periwinkle, and pink fantasy — this grouping would be stunning in reds, greens, silver and gold — stay traditional or make up whatever combo you want. We are running things and nobody is going to tell us we have to make our flowers match reality. #wootwoot

I’ve included some very large single word sentiments that can be used in a mix and match fashion to build the perfect message. I hope you enjoy working with these, I think they’ll make such pretty, unforgettable Christmas cards.

Wouldn’t you like to see what our Bloom Brigade designers have made with this one? Winter Wonderland is on parade at these Bloomie blogs...

Aren’t those FABULOUS???? I mean to tell you, I sit here in awe. Bravo, bravo, bravo, Bloom Brigade!

Now folks, tomorrow, October 24, IS THE DAY!

We’ll throw a full scale blog hop with one more peek at ALL EIGHT of our new Holiday stamp sets... Everything will be available in the store, PLUS, we’ll announce a special promotional offer to save when you buy multiple sets.
