Creative Confetti: Spin the Color Wheel

Hello, my sweet Power Poppy Peeps! How is your week going? Mine is already going fast, which means I am buckling up as we speak to get ready for the rest of the ride! ;-) Today, we have a bit of fun packed into our weekly challenge here on the 'ole Power Poppy Blog! It involves color and being challenged to maybe get out of our creative comfort zone. Here's what I'm talking about!

HOW TO PLAY: The mission is as simple as the graphic above! What's your birth month? Were you born in March? Then 3 is your number! And, using the color wheel below, find your corresponding color and then use it to make a big colorific splash on your card or creation! Just that simple!
ON TO MY CREATION!

If you want to see my creation this week, just click HERE!

Since November is my birth month, I found 11 on the wheel and realized my color is that deep grass green. FUN! I don't often create with this color so this one will be fun. Sadly, I didn't have time to create a card this week but I did find one I love using this shade of green as the main focus! Check it out!

I used the Power Poppy background Big Sexy Leaves and went to town coloring it up with Copic Markers. Once I was done, I colored in all the white space with a Silver Wink of Stella Pen, added white gel pen accents, matted it up and then used one of the sentiments from the Power Poppy Set M-Powering Words as my focal point. Fun! I love it when a background can make such a HUGE statement!

Now, don't think I am letting myself off the hook! I do plan to follow this challenge so check back in with me later this week and I'll either post the new card here or on my blog for our Power Poppy Friday post! ;-) It will be fun to flip through all my Power Poppy sets looking for the right color inspiration!

Now it's your turn! What color will the wheel provide to YOU? And, how will YOU rock it? I can't wait to see! Remember, every entry you provide on our linky below is one more chance to win a $25 gift code to the Power Poppy Shop! Woo Hoo!

Thanks for stopping by! See y'all back here real soon!

Art Imitating Life

Hello sweet peeps! Are you ready to see what creative confetti we throw into the air in the hopes of inspiring YOU in your stamping space? Well, I sure am! This challenge is for those times when you see things in nature that kind of give you pause. Is it a spectacular sunset? A blossom illuminated with light? Or, in my case, a creature that just wears a work of art on it's body each and every day.

Let's get right to it so that you can see what I mean!

I was sitting outside not too long ago when I turned my head and spotted this little guy below! Isn't he something else? Look at that iridescent sheen! Trust me, he was even more lovely in real life. Not quite sure what kind of beetle he is -- a jewel beetle perhaps? --  but... he's kind of awesome! I knew he would be the perfect inspiration for a card. :-)

So, after staring at his beauty for a bit to see which stamp set would really work, I settled on this one -- Big Sexy Leaves --  I know. It's perfect, right?

And then, I decided I would make this card a really sweet and simple creation -- something that didn't require a ton of coloring and one that could just "sing" on its own! So, I stamped the leaves, scanned the image and then printed using my laser printer so that I could add a little razzle dazzle in the form of some gold foil! I should mention, I decided to print this image on some dark green card stock -- to bring out its inner beetle!

I also chose the sentiment from this digital stamp set -- Hyacinth Bulb in Glass. I printed this on black card stock so that the sentiment would really pop. See?

It's funny, the foil looks like it is variegated. It isn't. It's just plain old gold foil but because I took the shot outside, You see the sky and my silhouette casting a bit of a shadow so that it looks like a multi-colored foil. Oh, one more note! I die cut my sentiment panel using a stitched die and decided after the fact to layer it over top some mirror gold card stock so that you would see some gold peeking out beneath the little stitched marks created by the die.

To accent, I added some gold cording and some iridescent sequins to bring the beetles shimmer to the forefront of my creation.

And that, my friends, is it! Art imitating a real, live beetle! ;-) So go out with eyes wide open and see those cool things around you. Snap a photo and use it as inspiration to create! I will love seeing not only your cards but the photos as well! And, when you are done, don't forget to link up your creation. There's a $25 gift code on the line folks! One lucky stamper will be chosen at the end of the month -- so keep creating with us each week!

Happy Tuesday & Happy Creating!

Friday

Are you ready for some Good Vibes?

Hi-dee Ho Sweet Power Poppy Fans! It's Friday and I have to tell you, it's been a few weeks since we've thrown some good vibes your way. So, I think I know the answer to the question, "Are you ready?" I know I am! There's so much goodness and fun to be witnessed with a little Power Poppy thread running through it all! Let's hop right in, shall we?

Your Good Vibe 5 Hit List

1. A Splash of Sparkle & Blue I have to say, when Ally Cope posted this card in the making using Power Poppy's O Holy Night stamp set, some Brusho and a wee bit of sparkle. I was completely taken by it. It's swoon worthy! I couldn't wait to see the final card and believe me, you're going to want to click HERE to see for yourself! She entered this one in one of our Creative Confetti Challenges. Click HERE to check out our challenges and play along if you feel so inspired!

2. Random Vibes  Okay, just like the title reads -- this good vibe is SUPER random. If you put  #powerpoppy in the search bar on Instagram, this image pops up on the feed. I was curious. Turns out the band Nasty Rumours just released some new stacks of wax and wanted to get the word out. Apparently, they are a Power Pop band. Why is this a good vibe? Well, I remember being a teen and spending HOURS in my room with the sounds from my coveted record collection blaring. And....the records that came out colored were way cool in my book. A red record? Way cool! So, this little photo just brought back memories! Thanks for indulging me! ;-)

3. The Power Pup! Oh my gosh, this photo of Mr. Tibbs is classic for so many reason and it gave me a chuckle. It's as if he's saying, "Why, my dear, are you taking my photo?" And second, it's a little teaser of some of the fun Marcy's been working on for her Christmas line. Mark your calendar for October 24th. That's when the sneaky peeks begin folks! Good vibes indeed!

4. FEARLESS coloring  Susan Wymer is rocking Power Poppy's Big Sexy Leaves and she's doing it on a little gift doled out at one of Kathy Racoosin's Coloring Roadtrips. Susan said she was coloring and trying to "Be Fearless" in the process. You go Susan! We happen to think this work in progress is smashing! Can't wait to see the finished project!

5. The Return of Someone Wonderful!   If you missed the big news earlier this week, Power Poppy welcomed back one of its very first Bloomies to our "family!" If you're a Leslie Miller fan (and let's face it, who isn't?), you'll be able to check out her Power Poppy creations on the Instant Gardener team. Goodness, I was so giddy to hear she wanted to join us again. She's a master in the cardmaking world and I've been a superfan for more than a decade! Welcome back Leslie! This little snippet shown is from a card she did HERE using Power Poppy's Winter Wonderland stamp set. Ahh... just gorgeous!

And here is a list of all of my Copic Markers that were used as promised…

And finally, a peak again on the inside of my card today…
