Inspire Me Monday: Creating with Brusho

Hello Power Poppy Fans!  Welcome to another edition of Inspire Me Monday.  I’m Allison Cope and I’m your hostess today.

Today we’re going to explore the coloring medium of Brusho Crystal Colour.  What’s that you ask. it’s a one-of-a-kind water-based paint medium. It's super-highly-pigmented, unpredictable and it's loads of fun to paint with!

I chose the large and luscious “Tiger Lily XL” stamp set to create with today so grab something to sip and join me in my crafty space…

So here is our end creation.  It’s super vivid and rich with interest.  I chose a sentiment from the “Short Stacks” stamp set as my sentiment.

I chose to die cut the sentiment semi-circle from the card front and adhere the piece to the inside of my card panel...

If you are interested in printing out my Brusho chart, click the image below to download for FREE.  I printed mine out on watercolour paper so it would be printed out on a paper that I would be using with my medium.

A Challenge for Allison:

For my May episode of Inspire Me Monday, I want YOU to leave me a challenge.  So leave a comment below indicating what you would like to see me create with… maybe a certain stamp set… maybe a specific medium… maybe just create something with a certain theme.  I want to hear from YOU!
Can’t wait to see what you challenge me with!

Thanks for joining me today!  I hope I’ve inspired you.  So now it’s your turn… go and grab your favorite medium and CREATE!

~ Ally ~

Inspire Me Monday - Mixed Media

Hello Everyone! How are you today? I am back for another Inspire Me Monday installment. My name is Kathy Racoosin and I am always delighted to be back on the Power Poppy blog.

I am not sure if you have heard of "The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge". If you have heard about it .... a big yah hoo from me lol. If you haven't you can click here for more info.  This current challenge is right in the middle of the 30 days and it's a great time to jump in and give it a try.

One of the great things about the challenge is that there isn't that "pressure" to finish a card and to color just for the joy of coloring. That brings me to today ... I have been gone since Wednesday and have been coloring on the road. Usually it's not a challenge for me but, I have been finding myself with dark hotel rooms & barley a surface to create on.

We just got home late Sunday night and I scattered my packed supplies on the kitchen table to do this post. (I usually always pack some Zig watercolor markers, a few stamps, ink, paper, sharpie, gel pen & colored pencils.)

I find it easier to start with the background. (The lily was stamped with Ranger Archival Jet Black Ink on Tim Holtz watercolor paper)

First I scribble the marker around a portion of the flower then ...

I wet my brush and paper to pull the color down working in sections on my paper. This jumbo Tiger Lily has always been a favorite of mine and it's fantastic to stamp and make shaped cards like I did in this post.

Pink was my choice to start with ... so I added a purple watercolor marker to the Tiger Lily trying to keep some white areas on each petal. (the other lily's I will finish on another day)

To be honest this is looking flat without any pizazz don't you think? It's ok to be honest because I happen to agree with you. This is where the mixed media comes into play.

Mixing different mediums on your coloring adds so much in my book. Doing this adds interest plus dimension with only three essential tools ... a white gel pen, a fine tip sharpie marker & a black colored pencil.

I like to point out that you don't need to know where the light source is coming from (unless that's important to you) I have heard many times that so many of you worry about the light source and where to place the darker areas on your images. You can still get dimension and interest with no stress.

Adding some shading with a black pencil to the lines that intersect ... will really enhance your coloring with barely any effort I promise. I like to refer to this as coloring the "nooks and crannies"  The petals with the arrows are the areas that I darkened with the black pencil using a light hand and not pressing hard with my pencil.

I thought a side by side might be helpful to see the difference and how adding few touches to your coloring makes a difference.

Pick up some pencils and a white gel pen to add a few highlights and see how it works for you. Thanks for your visit to day and I hope to see what you are coloring during the challenge. If you are sharing use the hashtag #thedailymarker30day so I can find your work on IG. Click here to find other ways to share. Have a great start to your week!

Hugs, Kathy

Inspire Me Monday - No need to be traditional

Hey everyone, Jessie Banks here today, hopefully to kick your mojo into high gear and remind you that no flowers have to follow traditional colours!

I have coloured the Sunflower Power Digital stamp, every colour under the sun! And this Tiger Lily XL is quickly becoming the same thing. I love that about florals, just because something "should be orange or pink... doesn't mean I cannot colour it teal!!

Seriously I love this flower, the size is amazing! And if you have seen any of my work with the digital stamps here at Power Poppy, I tend to blow them up and crop this, and this stamp gives me that same effect just in clear form! P.S. keep your eyes peeled for a new release, I have it on pretty good authority that another XL stamp is going to have to come live with me!

Oh yeah, of course I have a process video of colouring this lovely image up!

Thanks for stopping by,
hugz,
Jessie

Good Vibe 5 -- Julie Style!

Hello folks! Yours truly is filling in for Ms. Marcella who is on one of the most eventful, fun-filled family road trips EVAH! She hit the nation's capital with the kiddos and her Instagram is lit up with all kinds of epic escapades!

I have to share just one picture that made me laugh pretty darn hard. Check her out, will you? She completely rocks the Colonial vibe, don't you think? hehe! Love that little lady!

So, in the spirit of her Good Vibe 5 Friday posts, I thought I'd take a stab at sharing warm fuzzies and inspiration! So, here goes folks, buckle up and get ready for the ride!

GOOD VIBE 1

Can you even handle that smile and ... THAT FISH?? This is Bloomie Tosha's idea of a grand "girls only" getaway -- deep sea fishing off in the Morro Bay in California. At last check, she caught 9 and the day wasn't even done yet! You go -- you fish slayer, Ms. Tosh! She has some AMAZING photos from her adventure. So check them out HERE. Who knows, maybe seeing her excursion will inspire you to plan your own "girls only" getaway!

GOOD VIBE 2

Okay, this good vibe might not be fair. This amazing glimpse of Elizabeth Zaffarano's creation is just that, a snippet. Sadly, I can't send you a link to show more of this project using Power Poppy's Orchids Rock stamp set but I can tell you this is a work in progress for an upcoming Power Poppy post. SQUEEEEEEEE! Okay, I just let the giant cat out of the bag there. Yes, Ms. Elizabeth will be doing some guest hosting of Inspire Me Monday in the not-so-distant future. Stay tuned peeps -- BIG THINGS ARE HAPPENING!

GOOD VIBE 3

Friends, take a gander at this creation above. That is not a light shining on a stamped, dimensional image. That is the phenomenal job Shelby Thomas did of creating depth with the help of grey-toned Copic Markers and Power Poppy's Hellebores digital stamp set. Can we all take just a second to breathe out a collective sigh and say "WOW!" Yes, please join me. And, if you want to see another example of her shadow work, click HERE. I dare you to give this technique a try! I know I am going to give it a whirl!

GOOD VIBE 4

Remember playing with "plastic" as a kid -- hunkering down in front of the oven and watching all the excitement as your Shrinky Dink creation twisted and turned to create a "mini me" version of its original self? Those were the days, right? Well, as Ally Cope shares, we can all still be a kid at heart! Check out a sneaky peek above of the whimsical bookmark she created then click HERE to see her video tutorial using Power Poppy's Tiger Lily XL!

GOOD VIBE 5

Well, my sweet stamping friends, the fun continues at the Power Poppy Shop! Since Marcy's vacation was extended a bit -- guess what else is still ongoing? YES! You are right! It's our sale on all digital stamp sets! WOO HOO! Through the weekend, you'll be able to grab any of the digis in the shop for 20% off! Like the graphic says, simply use the code VACATIONDIGIS at the time of checkout!

And with the new techno-friendly images you purchase, why not dabble in one or, maybe two of the challenges we've got going on right now! Have you seen this week's monochromatic Hues to Use? Don't walk, run and check it out! And then, of course, grab that design power and play along in this month's Power & Spark. It's a fun one because Ally Cope is challenging you to CASE a Bloomie! Not sure what that means? Never fear! You can read all about it HERE! ;-)

Speaking of the Bloomies, a few of them are on stand-by -- AS WE SPEAK -- just ready and waiting for you to stop by and see some of the fun and crafty goodness that they've been working on this week! So, stop by, will you?

Thanks so much for spending a little bit of your day with us! Be sure to tune back in on Monday when our good friend Kathy Racoosin will be "in da house" sharing some colorful ways to add pizazz to cardmaking en masse! You will not want to miss this one folks!

See you back here soon!

Inspire Me Monday: Playing with Plastic

Howdy and Happy Monday to all of you out there in cyber land!  It’s Allison Cope here with another Inspire Me Monday tutorial for you today!

This week I thought I’d pull out a medium that I haven’t used in awhile, some fun Shrink Plastic!  I remember as a kid having printed “Shrinky Dinks” to color and create with.  I remember kneeling at the oven door, peering through the glass and watching them curl and contort and become cool little trinkets.  Is this something you did as a child?

Well we’re going to play with them again today and go through a few tips and tricks of inking them, coloring them and uses for them.

So let’s go to my crafty desk and create something fun.  Today I’m showcasing the bold and beautiful “Tiger Lily XL” clear stamp set on all my projects.

Here’s another quick look at the 2 simple cards I made using my first two plastic lilies…
I attached both blooms with large glue dots.  The plastic is pretty thick and you can't see the glue dots beneath it at all.

And here’s my final project, I quick bookmark using the Tiger Lily I colored with you on screen…

I hope you too get a chance to play with some fun stamps and cool plastic.  Give some of that plastic packaging that you have hanging around a try.

Thanks for joining me today!

MOVING ON...

Time now for our little weekly show and tell sharing just a little bit of what we love about your use of Power Poppy in blog and social media land!

Lisa Johansen (@alcojo94 on Instagram) really rocked Power Poppy's Leaping Trout digital stamp set! And, she has good reason! Can you believe the lake across the street from her house is full of these guys? Her hubby and kids love to catch them so she can cook them up for dinner. YUM! She even gave the digital version a bit of razzle dazzle and irridescence with the help of a sparkly gel pen!

I have to say, I just love the vivid pop of white that Dedre Wolff (@dedrewolff on Instagram) achieved with this clean and classy card. That mondo blossom from Tiger Lily XL is so pretty. Dedre proves that there are times when nothing "extra" is needed to show a dramatic kind of style. Purple is also one of my favorite colors -- so she also scored major points there too! :-)

What an honor it was to see this creation above from Crissy Armstrong! Why is it an honor? Well, Crissy is an illustrator herself and makes her own line of stamps! That she took time out of her day to savor one of Marcella's images (Everything’s Rosy) is a very nice compliment. Just breathe in all that petal detail? Ah-MAZ-ing! Crissy shows EXACTLY how she achieved this depth of color and detail with her colored pencils on her blog, it’s filled with tips and photos of her process. Thank you, Crissy!

Jenny Colacicco, (@soulbyte on Instagram) got her hands on a soon-to-be-released sprout from our digital line and man, is this little snippet just a tease or what? Just look at that bit of dreamy watercolor! And to think Jenny did this after her sweet little daughter went to bed. You'll have to stay tuned -- this one will be popping up in the Power Poppy Shop on Tuesday! Squeeee!!!

Well if that wasn't just a slice of pure inspiration -- there's more peeps! We have the Bloomies ready and waiting to show off some of the things they've been creating, putting those fabulous creative juices to use! Click on over and see....

And, that's not all my sweet stamping friends, the ever-so-talented Jessie Banks will be “in the house” Monday for another Inspire Me Monday to kick off your creative week.

Have an amazing weekend and we'll see y'all back here real soon.
~Julie

It's a Fantastic Friday Affair!

Howdy Power Poppy Peeps and welcome to another colorful edition of Power Poppy Friday! It's the day of the week when we love sharing the best on the web in the hopes of sparking a bit of creativity and inspiration in your own crafty spaces!

LET'S GET RIGHT TO THE ARTSY ACTION,
SHALL WE?

Oh, Elizabeth Zafferano -- what a colorific creation you whipped up! Elizabeth used a die cut and one of Power Poppy's newest members of the Instant Garden -- Flower Bomb -- to create this absolute masterpiece of an envelope! If you want to see the card she tucked inside, click HERE and check out this Insta post HERE sharing one of her little projects she's taking with her when she hits the road on spring break! Sigh..... can't wait to see that one finished!

Let's get some applause please for the coloring queen herself Ms. Kathy Racoosin! Holy COW that girl is on fire with the markers, pencils, and paints this month with her 30 Day Coloring Challenge (#thedailymarker30day) I just love the clean and classy design using Power Poppy's new set Succulent Singles along with one of my favorite sentiments of all time! ;-)

Nancy Sturtz fashioned an absolutely elegant splash of peonies in full bloom with this blue-hued beauty! I love the way she fussy cut each element in the Peony Muse stamp set and then accented it with a gorgeously detailed die cut and pearls! Speaking of die cuts! Our first four die sets that coordinate with the Spring Fling Collection stamp sets are IN-DA-HOUSE and have already begun shipping. So, if you ordered them, you can start stalking your mailman now! :-)

The designing phenom behind ES Cards created a real eye-catcher using Power Poppy's new set Tiger Lily XL!! She called it a Power Poppy puzzle and you can see why with stitched die cut squares situated this way and that way! I love the contemporary feel of this card paired with that bold pop of color!

Guess what? While we featured four, fantabulous, festive and fun creations here, you have to know that more inspiration is just a click away at #powerpoppy on Instagram or on our dozens upon dozens of Pinterest boards HERE!  If you are ever in a creative dry spell, these two spots bring a bevy of great ideas to get that mojo a flowin' again!

Spring Fling's Final Reveal - All Sets Available NOW

Well guys, it’s been a MOST delightful week sharing special peeks at our new collection of stamps. Today, we’re going to recap one that you got to see earlier this month when Kathy Racoosin of the Daily Marker created a showstopping group of cards with a stamp I designed at her special request! Did you happen to see Tiger Lily XL? It is the FIRST stamp in a new collection we’re starting featuring super-sized flowers in clear polymer. Lots of detail, large areas to color to really have room to fit your marker and pencil tips! These guys are large and in charge — they come on a 5" x 5" stamp canvas, and in this case, the flower itself is over 4" wide!

Kathy’s video coloring tutorial using Tiger Lily XL was a huge hit, and a revelation to many, as she colored it up with Sharpies, that clever lass. Then a few days later, she was back at it again, this time with colored pencils and a whole new color scheme. Be sure to go give this a peek, too, then pick up the stamp for yourself to add your own unique spin.

I’m just about to get right to the blog roll here for today’s final reveal by the hardest working team in the stamp business, The Bloom Brigade! Can we get a round of applause for them? Or even better, a standing ovation? Or wait, the BEST thing: stopping by their blogs to leave a cheery note. They have truly outdone themselves on this release, I’m sure you agree. But first, a brief announcement:
