Creative Confetti: Quick Color!

Hello all! Are you ready for a fun and speedy challenge this week? I will give you a clue, if you checked in yesterday to my Inspire Me Monday, you might already have an idea what this week's challenge entails!

HOW TO PLAY: Choose a design, technique or layout that adds a bit of quick color to your creation. This is not the week to spend hours upon hours coloring. Show us the ways you add a quick splash of color!

Need a little inspiration? Of course, my tutorial HERE yesterday is a great place to start, but that's not the only way you can take part in this challenge! Here are some other ideas below to spark a little creativity!

On to my creations!

If you click over HERE, you'll see a step-by-step on how I did this but I will give you a hint! I used stencil brushes and then, just dabbing them in the ink, and then dabbing on the paper to give my images a quick splash of color! For both cards, I used Memento Bamboo leaves to stamp my image for a softer than black base. I used the stamp sets Simply Camellias and then the clear set (retired) Lilac Time. This image is available in digital form though in the set French Lilac.

So, now it's your turn! Use a fun technique to add quick color to your card, then when you're done, enter your creation using the linky below. Every link is one more shot at a $25 gift code to the Power Poppy Shop!

Before we go, with a new month comes a brand new winner! After all the names were thrown into the virtual hat from our April Creative Confetti Challenge, Random.org drew the number...

And that means the winner is.....

* * * * ESSIE of ES Cards! * * * *

Woot Woot! Essie, all you need to to do claim your prize is to email us at bloom@powerpoppy.com and Marcy will get your gift code right to you! With the sale still underway, your winnings have a little extra buying power! ;-)

Before we go, you have to see Essie's beautiful creation!

Essie used Power Poppy's digital stamp called Pansies and in her Instagram post she said, "Power Poppy helps me love flowers even when I am (stuck) indoors!" We agree Essie! But with spring here, that shouldn't be the case for long! As you can see by scrolling through Marcella's IG feed, it's good medicine to be out in the midst of all those spring flowers! Click HERE and you'll see what I mean!

Well folks, thanks so much for stopping by! I hope the sun is shining in your neck of the woods or, at the very least, in your hearts!

Happy creating!

Inspire Me Monday: One Panel, Six Cards!

Howdy all! Welcome to Inspire Me Monday here at Power Poppy! I’m Allison Cope and I’m your hostess this week.

This week I’m going to talk a little bit about making multiple cards using one panel of creative awesomeness. PLUS — Power Poppy is offering a special offer on all of the stamp sets I’ve used today. Read through to the end for details...

Typically I am the type of card maker that makes one card at time.  Each one is individual and different and traditionally has not connection to the next card I make.  Today I challenged myself to create one single panel and then create multiple cards using that panel.

So here it goes…

To begin, I first chose some single blossoms and foliage from the the Simply Camellias and Glistening Paperwhites stamp sets. Who says you can't use Christmas stamps in February?!?!  I knew I wanted to create a watercolored back ground piece so I grabbed some Arches 140lb Cold Press Water Color paper and some fun ZIG Real Brush Clean Color Markers to use.

First I embossed the blossoms and branches all over the water color paper (4 1/2” x 11”) using Versamark ink, white detail embossing powder and my heat tool. I used my anti-static powder to wipe the entire panel down before I began this process as to inhibit any stray pieces of embossing powder from sticking where I didn’t want them.

Once all the heat embossing was done, I used my pink and purple shades of my ZIG Clean Color Markers and coloured the entire surface of the water color paper.  I used my water brush to blend and push the color around the surface.
ZIG Markers: English Lavender, Lilac, Light Violet, Violet, Light Pink, Pink

Next I took some Picked Raspberry, Dusty Concord, Seedless Preserves and Black Soot Distress inks and blended them at random over top of the entire panel leaving some open areas of color showing through.

Once the panel was dry, I mixed up a small amount of white acrylic paint and water and I used an old toothbrush and added some mini splatters all over the panel.  Too get really small splatters, I ran my thumb nail through the toothbrush right over top of the paper.

Next I chose some fun colours of cardstock that would coordinate with the colours of my water color panel.  I chose some fun Razzle Berry, Grapesicle and Grape Jelly cardstock from MFT.

Then I cut my long panel down into 3 main pieces;
Two panels of 4 1/2” x 4 1/4” and the remaining panel measured 2 1/2” x 4 1/4”.

I cut one large panel with a circle die cut from the middle.
The second large panel I cut using a V-shaped scalloped edge die about two-thirds down from the top.
And the small panel, I die cut a partial heart shape from.

And here what I did with all 6 pieces…
With the large, almost square panel, I added some stitching, a hot pink mat and lots of fun scalloped vellum circles plus a popped up white greeting from the “Nice Things to Say” stamp set.  I even have a little bit of fun hot pink string peeking out!

Next I took the scalloped panel, wrapped it with pink string, popped it up on a white card base and added a pink sentiment.

Then I took the bottom of the scalloped panel, adhered to the bottom of a card base and created a white panel using the same die cut for the top with a simple greeting.

Then I took the heart negative panel, matted it with purple cardstock and die cut a white heart to fit the space with an added simple sentiment.  I added the whole thing on an embossed card base for some added texture.

With the heart die cut water color piece, I created a whimsical word panel with grey, black and hot pink inks.  I added a few pink hearts and sequins and added it to a white card base.

And finally, I die cut a light purple cardstock panel and die cut and inlaid multiple sizes of stitched circles, popping the water colored circle into the center with a simple greeting at the bottom.

Voila… six simple cards using one panel and minimal supplies!

I hope you get a chance to give this technique a try.  Try a rainbow of different colors for your panel and have a ball seeing how many cards you can create using just one piece of inspiration!

Going Green

Hello Everyone and welcome to another Inspire Me Monday with yours truly, Kathy Jones! Today's tutorial is looking at greens - in particular colouring leaves! Anyone who has followed my work would know how much I love colouring floral images, so of course leaves are an essential piece of this. Let's take a peek at our finished piece!

Time to get started! Begin by stamping your image - I've used Simply Camellias by Power Poppy - in Memento Tuxedo Black onto X-press It Blending Card.

In the Copic family there is a huge selection of greens to choose!  Whether you want soft spring greens, deep greens, bold and bright greens or muted grey-greens, you will find a great combination to suit your project.  Today, I've used what would probably be my favourite green combination - G40, G43, G46, G99.  I just love the hues of this combo!

Lay down the base colour of G40.....

Then add some detail using the next darkest colour, in this case G43, particularly along the veins of the leaves......

Deepen the shadow areas with G46 (make sure you get on the underside of the leaves that would be blocked from the light)......

Go back with your next lightest colour (G43) and flick out from where you've added the G46.....

Then lightly go back with G40 (your lightest colour) over the edges of your previously coloured parts.  You don't have to colour over the entire leaf, the parts that you leave will stay light which will give you more contrast and interest.  You can repeat these last two steps until you are happy with the result.

When you blend with your lighter colours, you sometimes loose the depth from your darkest colour, so go back to add the contrast - I like to use G99 to really add some interest.

Then to make your leaves look a little less 'perfect' add a touch of E21 to parts of the leaves (it doesn't have to be much).  I really like the effect this gives.

Finish colouring your image in your preferred colours!!

I've used......
Flower - R00, R11, R12, R14, Y17
Bowl - C1, B0000, B000
Leaves - G40, G43, G46, G99, E21

Create your card!  You can find more details about how I made the card itself on my blog.

Hope you've enjoyed today's tutorial and you're inspired to colour some beautiful foliage yourself!!

Happy colouring!!

Inspire Me Monday: Gift Sets (part one)

Good morning Peeps! Stacy here, with my first Power Poppy Inspire Me Monday. I am excited to be here today! I am going to sharing with you a quick gift box to display the beautiful creations you make for gifts. So grab a cup of coffee or tea and relax for a bit.

For those that have seen my name, you are aware that gift sets are very popular with me. Often I am asked how my gift sets are wrapped for the recipient. That really depends on who I am giving a gift set to, in all honesty. Several of my “go to” wrappings are gift boxes. One of my more typical is the standard box that I will share with you today. The wrapping doesn’t have to be complicated, it really can be easy peasy. There is always room for elaborate design for those “special gifts” that we can look at later. For now we’ll go with easy peasy. Let’s get started.

Supplies: Scissors, score tool, adhesive, stamp set, 2 pieces of 8 1/2 x 11 card stock solid or designer paper.

Step 1: Lets work with the base of the box first. Cut the first sheet of card stock 6 1/2" wide x 8 1/2" long. Score at 1 inch on all four sides of card stock as shown.

Step 2: Cut the 1 inch score line at the four corners as shown. These will adhere to the inside of the box to form the sides.

Step 3: Add adhesive to each of the tiny tabs and adhere to the inside of the box. This shows with one end formed.

Here is what you should have when all sides are adhered. Set this aside and let’s work with the lid for the box.

Step 4: For the lid, which is slightly larger than the base of the box, cut the second piece of card stock 6 5/8" wide x 8 5/8" long. For those like me who are “mathematically challenged” (ha ha) see the photos for card stock placement above. Score as you did in Step 2, at 1 inch on all four sides. Repeat Step 3 to form box sides.

Step 5: Here is the gift box ready to be decorated and displayed. A nice touch for the inside of the box is add a decorative piece of paper to the bottom so when they use all the cards they have a pretty interior left behind. Also gives them a great way to store other treasures and re-use the beautiful gift.

My finished gift box. Just a few simple layers of card stock and designer paper for the lid base. I stamped the Simply Camellias on white card stock and colored the blooms with various Copic markers. Die cut with a Spellbinders Oval shape that is layered on a green base decorative oval shape. Before adhering this to the lid, a few flourishing jewel decorations were added. Stamped my sentiment, added a butterfly, and voila!

Over the last few weeks, I’ve shared some of the coordinating cards that I made to fit into the box—here is a recap of  a few creations! Our April collection was the perfect springy idea for gift set that I wanted to create using the Daffodils, Lilac Time and Simply Camellias. They are similar in design which is what I adore about matching gift sets. Now we have a beautiful box and a wonderful gift hidden inside.

This box size can also accommodate other tiny gift ideas you might like to add, such as a coordinating book mark, tiny journal or note pad, chocolates etc. Don’t get me started on all the goodies you can put into this box. ;-)

Thanks for joining me today and hopefully this inspires and encourages you to give it a try. Have a wonderful day!

Stacy  :-)
