Inspire Me Monday - Let's Chill!

Hello Power Poppy Fans! I'm Nancy Sheads from the Bloom Brigade here with this week's edition of Inspire Me Monday.

Two days until Christmas! If you're like me (and I suspect many of you are), you are scrambling madly to get everything done before the holiday. And although I vow every year that I'll start earlier, I'm still making holiday cards so I'm looking for images that I can color quickly.

So today's video features this adorable snowman from the Let's Chill Digital Stamp Set and a simplified color palette to get the job done.

Although this card will probably go out in my Christmas mailing, I often use a snowman image for a variety of occasions such as a winter birthday, get well or thinking of you cards. So don't tuck away your snowman images on December 26th! Pull them out and enjoy them until the snow melts.

Ready to color? Let's get started!

Inspire Me Monday - Change Up Your Holiday Color Palette!

Hello Power Poppy Fans! I'm Nancy Sheads from the Bloom Brigade here with this week's edition of Inspire Me Monday.

For today's project, I have a holiday card featuring Power Poppy's Bough Wow Wow clear stamp set.  If digital images are your thing, Power Poppy has you covered! This image is also available in digital format as Mittens and Merriment

What's your favorite holiday color combination? I like non-traditional color schemes for holiday cards, although the combination of teal blue with red and/or pink has become so popular that it's become a common holiday palette as well. But the color combination is one of my favorites and I've been using it a lot for this season's holiday cards.

I started by stamping the image with Amalgam Ink in Obsidian by Gina K. Designs on Hammermill Color Copy Digital Cover. Although this ink is Copic compatible, make sure that it is completely dry before you start coloring so that it doesn't smear on your page or rub off on your marker nib.

This image is really easy to color and the finish results pack a lot of punch. I've added a coloring video to show just how simple it can be. The markers I used are listed at the bottom of the page.

After coloring the image, I rummaged through my stash of dies to come up with a pair of oval dies that would layer together. I always have a hard time mixing and matching different colors and patterns of design paper, but it happened that I found a doubled sided design paper in my stash where both sides worked together to give me the final result that I wanted.

COPICS USED:

G24, G46 (leaves)
G20, G21 (pom poms)
R24, R37, R59 (heart)
BG11, BG32, BG72, BG75 (ribbon)
BV000, BV00, R37 (snowflake mitten)
BV000, BV00, BG11, BG32, BG72, BG75 (striped mitten)

Thanks for joining me today! See you back here soon!

Inspire Me Monday ~ Spring Inspired Phone Case

Hello fellow Power Poppy lovers! I’m Allison Cope, your hostess for Inspire Me Monday today.

With having such a brutally cold February and start of March here in Southern Alberta, I needed to welcome some fun and flirty Springtime blooms to my craftroom so I printed out a copy of the glorious “Magnolia Sunshine” digital image to create with today.

A little over a year ago I finally got my hands on a new clear case for my Samsung phone and made a customized decorative panel to put on it.  You can see the process of my first phone panel here.

So join me in my craftroom as I create a brand new panel to pop in and accessorize with today!

Here’s another quick look at my new Spring inspired phone…

So the next time you pull out your crafty supplies, think how you might use them in your everyday life to bring light and love to yourself and others!

Hope you have an amazing week!  Now go get crafty!

Inspire Me Monday ~ Wrap it

Hello and Happy New Year!!!  Tosh here, and I'm excited to bring you some new inspiration today.  As card makers, we are used to picking out an image, deciding on a layout and how to frame it using dies, fussy cutting, or just leaving it as is on a one layer card.  We also can "chop off" part of an image with diecutting or just letting it float off of the side of our card.

Well, today, I thought it would be fun to wrap the image around the card (or over the top) to leave a little surprise for the recipient on the back.  I started by stamping the Artistic Bouquet image on a full sheet of cardstock (you can cut yours to size before stamping if you'd like.).

I then trimmed it to the size I wanted and folded it where I wanted the image to land on the front and back side of my card.  Here's what is going to be the front of my card:

And here is the back side. You don't have to fold it until after all your coloring is done, but I wanted to get a feel of how it was showing on both sides as I colored it.

After I finished coloring it, I diecut a border on each end and adhered two separate scored panels to the inside to hide where the Copics soaked into the cardstock.  At the top of the post, I shared the front of the card, and here is the back...

Lastly, I wanted to show you what it looks like fully opened.

Thanks so much for visiting.  I hope you'll give this a try.
Happy Stamping!!
Tosh

Inspire Me Monday: A new use for those chisel nibs!

Hi Power Poppy peeps! We've got a special treat for you this Monday! One of our absolute favorite professional coloristas is here with us this week and guess what? She's flipping the lid on her Copic Markers to show us an ingenious way to use a part of the marker that doesn't often see the light of day. Amy Shulke from VanillaArts.com is working her magic to give a new and creative use for those Copic chisel nibs using Power Poppy's Gerbera Daisies.

Take it away Amy!

TIP #1: Do you think of the chisel nib as "the refill end"? I'm about to color this entire image with just the chisel. I've concentrated the dark confetti strokes in patches rather than scattering them willy-nilly. This calms the background and will keep it from overpowering the flowers.

TIP #2:  Just because I'm using loose confetti type strokes doesn't mean I don't need accurate shade values. This dark purple will push the hand-drawn leaves deeper into the bouquet.

TIP #3: Coloring smaller areas with a chisel nib? I can get three distinct stroke shapes from the same nib using the broad side, the narrow side or just the corner. Narrow strokes and corner strokes fill the button shapes nicely.

TIP #4: A cast shadow always adds a sense of spatial depth and reality, even if most viewers never notice it.

TIP #5: I put off the yellow until last because I wasn't quite sure how deep of a yellow was necessary. By waiting until everything else was complete, I was able to make an educated decision rather than a random guess. I had set aside a darker group of yellows which turned out to be too similar to the background. Glad I waited!

TIP #6:  My pencil strokes either match the shape and size of the marker strokes or they're super soft and barely there. Accent the marker work, don't hide it.

Thanks so much for sharing Amy! I absolutely love the results and can't wait to create my own confetti background and chisel nib creation! For those that joined us today -- do you want to give this technique a whirl? Be sure to leave a link in the comments section if you do give it a try!

If you think you might need a little extra help pulling off this look, you're in luck! This Friday -- September 14 -- at 11 AM EST, you can join Amy for a LIVE lesson on how to control your chisel nib markers and discover what chisel nibs do best --  allow your inner artistic voice to shine!

Can't make the class, don't worry! Amy offers a recording immediately after the live broadcast ends and you can watch as many times as you want until March 1st, 2019! Want to know more? Just CLICK HERE for all the deets!

Thanks for stopping by! Happy Monday everyone!

Copic Coloring with Mindy - Coloring a Cake

Hello there my Power Poppy Peeps! It's Mindy from My Creative Scoop and I have a new tutorial to share with you on this Inspire Me Monday!

I'm using this adorable Layered Cake Digi from Power Poppy I had so much my fun coloring this image and I absolutely love the way that it came out! Coloring this cake is all about the texture and shading. I literally dotted the entire time I was coloring so I could get the cake texture right. I know so many people have trouble with shading and shadowing but coloring any Power Poppy Image is already helping with where to add those shadows.

If you look closely on the photo below there are tiny lines and dots to show you were to add all those shadows.

Ok, let's get on with the tutorial you can use any Copic Colors you'd like but here's the colors I'm using.

E43, E42, E41, E25, R85, R81, V12, V15, V0000, B00, B93, B95, BG11, BG13, BG18 Y21, Y26, G20, G24.

You will repeat the next couple steps for each different color and layer of the cake, unless you choose to keep the layers all the same.

I hope you enjoyed this month's coloring with me! I also wanted to share with you that my Mother's Day Coloring Class featuring Power Poppy's Hellebore's Digi Stamp is now available for a limited time. You can sign up today for lifetime access to the course!

Have a wonderful day!

♥ Mindy
