We love seeing the efforts you all share with us each month, they range from charming beginners to the exquisitely advanced, and I have to say, I am always impressed by what I see. It’s hard to color inside the lines of those tiny drawings, much less bring them together with other design elements to create a really cool card. And you guys are improving your skills and broadening your range of talents. You’re getting SO GOOD!
In fact, I would say we’re getting to the point where we can push your creativity even further, and maybe even deeper.
We’re going to take a quick hiatus from our monthly challenges to bring you something new. Each Saturday in September I’ll be sharing a challenge — and it will only last for a few days! Then we’ll throw out another idea. Short n’ snappy-like. Then another. You get the picture. My goal is get you into a zone of open-mindedness and fresh thinking before you even sit down to make a card. We’re just doing some creative re-calibration, and I hope that as many of you as possible will join us on this ride. Oh, and there will be prizes. ’Cause who doesn’t love prizes? Introducing:

Share a favorite quote, saying, or verse that inspires you in the comments section of this blog post.
It can be a jaw-dropper with huge insights. It can state the obvious, but in a way that’s clever. Maybe it helps shift you into another state of mind. Whatever it is, it speaks to you. It makes you go “hmm” or “wow!”, feel relief, deepen your faith, or bust out laughing. I would love if you would explain what it means to you, why you return to it again and again. Or if it’s new to you, why it has captured your spirit.
I’ll get us started with a quote that seems to do this for me without fail:
Talk about a perspective-changer! “You are not just a drop in the ocean, you are the mighty ocean in the drop.” The 13th-century poet Rumi wrote this observation, and I have scrawled it on more than a few Post-Its to remind myself that we are so much more powerful than we may think. We have all the tools already within us to do whatever we need to do.
Now, you try. I am hoping that we can fill up pages of inspiring quotes. That is my goal with Power & Sparklette Week 1. So that when you share your meaningful quote, you may also see other folks’ favorites, be it a Bible verse or one of Ben Franklin’s witty quips, or that funny thing that somebody’s Grandma used to always say. We’re going to do something with these, but I’m not ready to spill the beans on that yet. For now, let’s think about words that inspire us.
Next week, I’m going to choose one of the submitted quotes to illustrate (more neatly than the one I showcased above!) as a drawing that can be colored in, and I will share it as a free download on the Power Poppy blog!

Well I'll get the ball rolling! I love this quote because it reminds me that it's OK if my coloring is not "perfect." Making mistakes is part of the process and sometimes my "mistakes" end up being happy surprises.

A quote about family and ancestry that I like is, "We are who we are because they were who they were." It might be Maya Angelou, but I am not sure, she might have been quoting someone else.

I Really like this idea for a challenge. Some great comments already. I found this on Pinterest and loved it. "At some point you just have to let go of what you thought should happen and live in what is happening".
The first quote that entered my mind (as a former elementary teacher) is one I said to my students a time or two. "If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right". It's from Henry Ford and I really like the lesson on perspective.
I just ran across this one: Seek respect not attention, it lasts longer.

This is one of my favorite verses - "And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21". When I was in my final year in college, one day I was wondering what I should do in my life. The very next day, I read this verse during my morning Bible reading.

I have an entire notebook of quotes that I refer to for inspiration and am constantly adding to it. I have so many it's hard to choose but here's mine. "Some books you read, Some books you enjoy, But some books just swallow you up, heart and soul". Ok, one more. "Nothing stands between a girl and her coffee." Thanks for the fun challenge.
"In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength" -- This part of the verse from Isaiah 30:15 is really meaningful to me after struggling with some anxiety issues since my husband's unexpected brain surgery last year. It helps me remember how to quiet the fears and that I can go forward in confidence when my hope is in the Lord.

One of my absolute favorite quotes comes from a movie starring Dustin Hoffman as a quirky, eccentric man by the name of Mr. Magorium. He was giving advice to his apprentice, who was a little insecure and unsure of herself. He said, "Your life is an occasion. Rise to it." His words touched my heart and that was the year I decided to share my art with others.
Another favorite is from the Wizard of Oz. "You've always had the power to go back to Kansas" is what Glenda, the Good Witch said to Dorothy. But, we have shortened it to, "You've always had the power." This speaks to my inner strength.
Marcie, this is an exciting idea and I will be participating as soon as I return to the states and my craft room. Recently, I came across a statement that has been in my mind. Fine your tribe and love them hard. Author unknown. This is just a start, there are so many out there to choose from.

What a fantastic challenge Marcy! One of my most favourite quotes is from the movie "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel". Sonny always says "Everything will be alright in the end. Holding onto anger is like swallowing poison and expecting the other person to die. Budda So many people don't realize when they refuse to forgive the only person that really suffers is them. Carpe diem! I first heard this when watching Dead Poet's Society, and this quote reminds me to "seize the day." I'm normally a very shy, introverted person, but once in a while, I will seize the day and do something out of the norm.

I absolutely love all the quotes shared. One of my favorites is "success is not in never failing, but rising every time you fall!" By Jonathan Taylor Thomas. I also love the give service providers a nice thank you card. One of my favorite quotes I've seen but never have seen a stamp is: real doctors treat more than one species. Would love to give a thank you card like this for my veterinarian.

A favorite quote from my mom that worked both for me and also for my boys growing up was " Work first, get it done. Play last, have more fun." This was for chores and homework being done so we could go out and play and not have to stop the fun and come in to do them.

oh it has been fun to read everyone's favorite quote. Mine is Proverbs 3:5,6 "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths." I say this to myself all the time. It soothes me in times of sorrow and when I pray and don't know what else I can do. It gives me comfort when I don't know how to proceed or what is next.
I have a few favorites but this one I use a lot in my life...I have no idea who the author is but it goes like this...Don't invite people to your garden who will trample on your flowers....

Today, September 7th. is my birthday, I'm 65 now and so very proud of what I've done in my life up to this point.
One of the things that characterizes me is that I'm always believing that, when you believe in yourself, anything is possible.
One of my favorite quotes comes from, of all things, a rubber stamp I bought many years ago because of what it says, this is it.
LIFE MAY NOT ALWAYS BE THE PARTY WE HOPED FOR BUT, WHILE WE'RE HERE, WE MIGHT AS WELL DANCE"
That to me says that, you must be willing to take chances, work hard on what ever you want to do, even if it seems impossible at first, you'll never know until you try.
As an Iron Man Triathlete, I know about taking a chance, working hard and accomplishing what seem so impossible to do at my very ripe 55 years of age. But I did it, 3 times!!!!! and for that, I'm proud and grateful.

There are a couple of verses that have meant a lot to me these last two years. One is "You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You." God truly brought this to my mind when I was in the ER not knowing what was wrong with me for many hours. Another one is 1 Peter 5:7, "Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you.” Finally, Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.” This was the passage my mom’s pastor shared with her to encourage her as she battled breast cancer. I would LOVE to see 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 as a coloring page!

I meant to include why these speak to me. I am attracted to quotes that make me hopeful. I relate to each one of them, but perhaps the last is most applicable to this stage of my life. Thanks for this great challenge. It's very inspiring!

Boy reading through these is awesome! I had to stop myself from commenting on most of them. haha Some wonderful quotes that I often think of myself. One that has been with me over the years and strongly since the boys were in 6th grade is author unknown "When I ask God to direct my path, I need to accept the doors HE closed along the way. " I had this made into a stamp for cards and use it a lot.
Often I find that we pray for one door to close and he chooses a different door to close and we are frustrated that it was not the door we asked to be closed. Funny how in retrospect that was the best door to have closed not the one we were asking to be closed. ;-)

I have always loved this opening line from the theme song for the movie "The Twelve Chairs" by Mel Brooks; "Hope for the best, expect the worst, some die of drowning, some die of thirst".
To me, it's a realistic look at the world. Try your best, but also be prepared for accidents to happen.

My all home favorite quote is a scripture.

I am so glad you have this still open, because my week has been so hectic. My favorite quote is from Corrie Ten Boom who was born, raised and lived in Haarlam, Netherlands. She and her family made the decision to help fellow Christians and fellow citizens during WW2 under the Nazi's constant eye and regulations. They were taken to the concentration camp Ravensbruck in Germany. Her father and sister died there. She went through many horrible things there and then through an error in paper work (but not God's error - :) ) She was released. The following is a quote of her's.
“No pit is so deep that He is not deeper still; with Jesus even in our darkest moments, the best remains and the very best is yet to be.”
I would love to see you do a digi of part A of this quote - “No pit is so deep that He is not deeper still" and I think it would be so fitting to put this quote in the middle of a wreath of the Netherlands "unofficial" national flower, tulips. Also I would love to see the "He" in that part A capitalized "HE" to represent God. (Which is who she was referring.)

I know I will meet her in heaven one day.

"If you stumble make it part of the dance." Not sure of the origion, but it reminds me to not dwell on past mistakes as a single occurance, but to be grateful for them as they got me to here.
