Well howdy!! It is Day 3 of sneaky peeks at our new collection of stamps, and boy am I excited about this one! You see... the inspiration for these TWO sets was put in motion back in March, during a family spring break trip to Chicago.
I stopped into a cool-looking antiques shop in the Andersonville neighborhood, called Brimfield. The owners of this shop, Julie and Jeff Fernstrom, have created a most magical place. Room after room is lovingly loaded with everything from vintage tweed jackets to souvenir dishes, retro barware to wonderful woodsy finds — everywhere you turn is an incredible, unique display. It is a MUST-STOP if you are in Chicago. (And is right down the street from the sweetest art supply store, Martha Mae: Art Supplies and Beautiful Things — you guys seriously would swoon at both of these places!!)
The wall of vintage wool blankets had me on my knees. I mean, look at this! The patterns, the textures, the colors. I am grateful to people who help bring such sights to our eyes with their vision for creating such a cool place. I have about a billion more photos, but suffice to say, this place got my wheels turning for creating a stamp set (or two!) inspired by quirky plaids and Northwoods charm. So I set to researching... and now I am officially:
MAD FOR PLAID! So many options, so many subtle shifts in pattern that all work together! It’s cuteness with a rustic edge. Camping chic. Christmas gone tartan. Would you like to see what I did with all this plaid madness?
Snuggle Down is here to warm you up with cozy blankets and thermoses filled with hot cocoa (plus perhaps a sprig of pine). Can you imagine the coloring possibilities? I’ve loaded it up with sentiments with wishes of good cheer, and the pièce de résistance.... several strips of do-it-yourself plaid!
You’ll have to go visit Tosha Leyendekker’s blog for the full scoop on this darlingness! She totally went to town making plaid backgrounds in two-tone, showcasing sentiments from this year’s Happiest Holiday collection. But wait, there’s more. And this next set coordinates with Snuggle Down — how much fun is that?
Introducing Through the Woods — a bit larger stamp canvas than I normally do at 6" x 6", just so I could CRAM IN MORE IMAGES! In woodsy rustic fashion, this set has plaids, antlers, birch and birds, even one of the fonts looks as if it were made from logs. I plan to use the log sentiments on all the things this year. It will be Log Fontpalooza!
I’ve also tucked in two log cross-sections that are perfect for making backgrounds or tiny tags. Do you remember this birch log frame from the Wreath: Birch and Evergeens digi?
Well, you can NOW get this frame in clear stamp form (the sentiment is only included in the digital set called Wreath: Boxwood and Cranberry) along with lots of sentiments that fit perfectly inside.
There’s a very special, snow-tufted tree freshly plucked from the forest (so fresh in fact, the birds are still in it!) potted in a vintage Skotch Cooler. AND a surprise third vignette to make your holiday cards glow with warmth and jingle with merriness.
What do you think of these two sets so far? Well, just wait and see what the Bloomies have made with them!
You’ll soon see, the Bloom Brigade completely bombarded us with cuteness today with both of these sets. I’m tickled pink — and green — plaid!
See you tomorrow when we’ll debut a set that will have you thinking about vintage needlework! It’s pretty darling and I know it will be a go-to for me this year. (Along with log fonts). Merry Merry!
